What is the typical drive to work for everyone??? Does most people live in that city or do you all drive half and hour to and hour to work??? Here in Michigan it is about half an hour to get to work...but our cities are close together...I can be anywhere big in like 15 mins. What is the difference for Wyoming???

Well, in Sheridan, I live on the edge of town. If I drive 15 minutes, I'll not only be through town but a few miles out East.

From North to South, 15 minutes will take you from city limits to city limits.

So in Sheridan, 10 minute commute is about max unless you live out of town or work out of town.

Gillette is not much different. A little more spread out and definately more traffic, but still I would think 15 minutes would put you anywhere in town.

Casper, Cheyenne, etc, can't help you with.

Virtually anywhere "in town" in Cheyenne or Casper will have you through town in 15 minutes.

I drive anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to work. 30 minutes puts me at my jobsite (32 miles), and an hour to get to the office further east in Gillette (66 miles). I had the option to live in Gillette, but if you've seen Gillette and then see Buffalo or Sheridan, you might understand why the drive is worth it.

Only thing is, no major shopping where we live. For that we go to Billings, Sheridan or Gillette depending on what we need. Also, there's no sales tax in MT so Christmas shopping is an out-of-state event for us. If we lived in Gillette, that'd add another hour to the drive for that luxury. Not a fun drive with two little kiddos...

well if finances are low you will likely be stretched pretty thin anywhere near gillette, sheridan,or buffalo.rental housing is very tight so fairly expensive.there is some stuff for sale thats not too outragous compared to a lot of places in the country.towns can be really spread out in wyoming, some places on a main road it can be 70-80 miles between gas stations.housing is a bit cheaper in moorcroft and upton to the east and wright to the south of gillette,[30-60 miles depending on which town],which are less scenic then buffalo/sheridan.living in wyoming is a lot different then michigan or any eastern state where even the smallest towns are still reasonably close to bigger places with a lot of shopping, etc.you really need to go visit the area before committing to anything, you may love it but a lot of people dont.its a wonderful place for people who love the outdoors and wide open spaces.its not a real great place for those who live to shop or want a lot of nightlife choices.its not a good place for people who dont like to drive because things are really spread out.wyoming is my favorite state in the country but its not for everyone, its the least populated state for a reason.many who live in the gillette area live there for the money and spend there spare time in other parts of the state.in the end only you can decide if its the right place for you

Well I live in a really small town here in MI population is like 2000 my fiance lives in a even smaller town. I love to travel, so driving isn't a problem. Growing up thats the only way my family went anywhere. I'm not really into shopping...thats why there is internet...now a days you can buy anything online. I love the out doors and don't always like to be around alot of people...sounds like a great state for me...LOL
If you were to recommend a city to live in close to Gillette what one would you say is the best???

I live in Buffalo. It's a great place to raise kids, which is a huge reason we chose to move here. Gillette was just too big and I didn't read too many great things about that city. Now that we're here I'll say that what I read was mostly true. But Buffalo is a relatively expensive place to live. What is your price range for housing and what type of home/apartment are you looking for?

well once you get west of gillette there are no towns for 60 or 70 miles.there really are no towns due north of gillette,[there are some very small ones to the nw nearer to sheridan].south of gillette the only 'town'within a commutable distance is wright ,about 40-50 miles south that was originally built as a company town by arco in the 70's.its got around 1500 people which in wyoming puts it probaly in the top 30 towns for population.most who live there work at one of the coalmines.there isnt much there other then houses.rozet, just east of gillette is kind of a suburb of gillette, not much there other then houses spread out north and south of the interstate.moorcroft, about 30 miles east has a few stores, gas stations, places to eat, churches,a couple of bars, about 800 people.upton, about 25-30 miles further east is kindof a smaller version of moorcroft to the se on hwy 16.just east of moorcroft the black hills start and things get more scenic.a little ne of moorcroft adjoining the keyhole resevoir is the small community of pinehaven, not much there business wise but not real expensive and kind of pretty at the edge of black hills.hulett to the north and sundance to the east are both small and very pretty towns but with either you're getting into a 60-70 mile commute to gillette.im not sure where your boyfriend will be working but a lot of the mines are a ways from gillette so you have to add that in.moorcroft or pinehaven are your best bets for a reasonable commute, and cheaper housing then gillette and close to keyhole and the blackhills for freetime recreation.

I'm starting to look into either moorcroft or pinehaven...I haven't decided which one. My Fiance is going between two jobs...he hasn't made up his mind yet...so it doesn't give me much to go on. I'm just waiting and eventually he will figure it out. I guess he is just preparing me for married life...hehehe!!! The womans supposed to figure it all out with as little detail as possible...hehehe!!! Thanks though
