I'm looking out my window at the beautiful snow falling, about 2 inches total, RS. You're probably going to luck out, since we're getting the snow now, it will be blown away before you come through and I don't think they're calling for more that soon. Go on Wyo web cams before you leave Cheyenne or Laramie and look at Arlington and Walcott Junction. If the roads turn bad around there you can get off at Walcott and shoot south on the highway to Saratoga, stay at the Saratoga Inn, it has great feather beds, nice hot springs pools, and a good restaurant. Good Luck!

We're getting hit up here in Sheridan. About an inch an hour. 12 degrees, no wind.

In Cheyenne, a 20 minute flurry that left a bit of moisture on the roads, now turning to ice. I think the storm has passed through for now. Not much more forecast moisture, and 50'sF forecast for the coming week daytime temps.

sdf1084 is on a distinguished road
I'm driving from Richmond, VA to South Lake Tahoe, CA December 21-23. Should I take I-80, I-70, or the southern route along I-40. We have a Ford Taurus and we need to do this quickly, which means avoiding snow. Is it not even worth it to attempt to drive through Wyoming this time of year?

I would take the united airlines jet liner to be perfectly honest. It can't be cheaper to drive that far, not to mention all of the time you'll spend traveling that could be spent sitting in the ski lodge. If you have to drive, I can't imagine why, I would take the southern route. The states that you have to drive through on I-70 and I-80 are all prone to ice and snow, I-40 would be the logical choice.

There is a very good possibility of running into snow around South Lake Tahoe, too. In fact you might run into snow 50 to 100 miles before you get there, depending on the route you take. If you're concerned about avoiding snow, South Lake Tahoe should not be your destination. If you are simply trying to find the route with the least amount of snow, I would suggest I-10 to Los Angeles, then I-5 to Sacramento, then Hwy. 50 to South Lake Tahoe. The next best route would be I-40 to Barstow, Hwy. 58 west to Hwy. 395 north to Nevada, taking whichever route is clearest to reach South Lake Tahoe.

The three sisters are raising havoc tonight. Snow advisory's, wind warnings, got it all going. By your post, you should already be there. Hope you had a good trip.

Wyoming is kind of funny. It can be the most beautiful photo opportunity you'll ever get. 4 hours later, it can be the most hazardous trip you'll make. And another hour and it can be the most dangerous trip.
