Another one on my poor wife. Really she is a smart lady. Just was not experienced in wyoming ways.
Once while fishing at the Boysen dam. I looked up and saw her reeling in her line. And hollaring "Honey! Whats them? Them Things chasing me?" She had a fish on the line and wanted it. She had about 5 Marmonts, slowly waking out of the rocks toward her. It looked so odd. Her trying to get the fish in before they (marmots) got her.
I was bad I started laughing walking toward her. She never was real scared just warey. I stomped and threw some rocks to land in front of the critters. They scampered back into the rocks.
I told her the marmots probably were used to people feeding them and wanted a handout.
She said the reason she didn't throw the pole down and run was, I loudly explained on a rabbit hunting trip.Earlyer in winter. She slipped and went to her knees, and to get up. She just kinda pitched my new Ruger 10/22 ahead of her, and into the mud. I helped her up and I guess spoke alittle loud. And she didn't want to get hollared at again.
I got to say in her defense. My wife is a very smart lady, as well as a RN ICU/Emergency/Telemetry Nurse.
I will ad more. But I am sure others have stories to share? Maybe?

Marmots, also known as rockchucks, are rodents very similar to woodchucks that tend to live in high elevation, rocky terrain. Here are a couple links to sites that describe them and have pictures, too.

I dont live in Wyoming but I have a cousin who does. My wife and I went to Alladin Wyo on our way to Salt Lake city while on vacation one year. Alladdin had a population of 13. One general store/gas station/post office. That is about all there was other than the local residences. The thing that surprised me the most was when my cousin came out of the house to greet us and he had a pistol in a holster on his hip. I'm thinking, " what did I do to jmake him mad at us?". Later we walked up to the little store and he didn't take the gun off. I said "Are you going in the store like that?" He said everyone around there wears a gun. It is like part of the clothing. I couldn't believe it. There were 3 other people in the store when we got there and 2 of them were wearing guns. No one paid any attention to them being armed. Of course everybody knew each other and it was a common practice. Being from Ohio I was kinda shocked. I wasn't about to cause any type of road rage incident around there, I can tell ya that. What a different way of life from what I was used to.
Later we saw a prairie dog town somewhere not far from the Devils Tower. Those little dudes would stand up on their hind legs and look like they were posing when we took pictures of them. It was funny. At least they weren't wearing guns. Probably couldn't find a small enough holster belt.
I think the wind blows constantly anywhere west of the Mississippi River. Everytime I've been west of there I have always felt the wind all the time I was there.
I loved the wide open spaces of Wyoming. There is room to move and no congestion where we were. I can understand why my cousin never came back to northeast Ohio. Of course you would have to be an outdoor type of person and not need the big city convienences to enjoy living where my cousin does. I think I could enjoy that kind of life now that I'm semi-retired and don't have to work full time to survive.

I have ate the hams of them a few times. I thought they were good. Once barbacued-kinda tough, once chunked and stewed in a crockpot-very good, three or four times- sliced and fried with flour on-alittle tough, but good.
I was always told if you kill it you should at least try to eat one. And I do. Some things I really like to eat. Others, well. I did try them once.
