Builders in Jackson
Do workers in the trades make a lot of money in the Jackson Hole area?? When i check the real estate there, it's always big estates. So would a carpenter expect to make more there than elsewhere?

I haven't lived there in about three years, but the last I heard, carpenters make good money in Jackson. There is a lot of building going on and if things are still the way they were, you would never be unemployed. I do not know how the housing crisis has affected the area, but I have a feeling it's not as hard hit as other places.

Thanks. Aparently though real estate in Jackson is through the roof. Is there a town just outside Jackson where workers live?

Over Teton Pass in Idaho, in either Driggs or Victor. Or down the canyon to Alpine. Both trips take about 45 mins as I recall.
It's very expensive living up there, but if you can swing it, Jackson really is a great town and if you're into the outdoors at all, it's perfect.

Good Carpenters make 18.00-35.00hr.
The average home in Jackson is now in the above 1 mil range.
The problem is finding a good contractor to work for. There are always lots of jobs, just not lots of good bosses who will have full time, year round work.

Considering framers make around $3 a square in Cheyenne and around $6 a square for the same type house in Rock Springs, I'd imagine no one is doing anything for under $8 - $10 in Jackson. And then if you're talking about a very large house that takes a couple months to build I'm sure they go higher than that. I'm talking about sub prices here of course.

there is a lot of building going on in the bedroom communities ... Star Valley and Teton Valley so their is always a need for good carpenters not only in Jackson but in Alpine and Driggs/Victor area. Yes ... I have heard of pay going all the way up to $35/hour.
One huge development in the works in Driggs is Huntsman Springs ... you may want to look at that.
