Moving to Gillette area, need some advise.
Well first a little background about me. I'm 25, single, and just spent 6 years in the army.
I'm a quite person who tends to keep to himself. The only negative I can think of is that I smoke.
I got a job with Alltel as a network tech making about 40,000 a year. And Gillette is where I'm going to be working.
I'm getting a bit worried about being able to find a place to live. I start work on the 7th of Jan and due to the holidays that really limits the amount of research I can do.
At least the move will be simple, My S10 truck and a 4x8 Uhaul is all that I'm bringing.
I was hoping to find an apt/trailer/small house for $500 a month or so, but that seems close to imposable right now.
Can anyone give me any tips as to where to look for housing? A commute to work would be ok as well.
The online apt ads are no help, and the Gillette local newspaper doesn't have a listing below $900.
Thanks for reading, and Merry Christmas!

When I moved to Sheridan, I called on a weekly and sometimes daily basis to find a place to rent, I called every apartment in town, every realtor, anything I could think of, and we didn't find a rental until 2 weeks before we left and even that was a miracle...
Worst case scenario is that you will have to stay in a hotel or motel for a few days, weeks, and sometimes a month.... and find one while you are in the town itself...
If you are single though, I think it may be easier to find a one bedroom place or studio rather than a two... it was that way in Sheridan.. Prices for rent are a little high right now due to supply and demand.

Welcome to Gillette! And congrats on the new job. And thank you greatly for your service in the military. My brother is an army boy too.
Here is a list of apartment buildings in Gillette with phone numbers:
Moderator cut: url cut, send it to them in a dm please I hope that helps.
If there aren't any openings, just put yourself on a waiting list and like Kristynwy said, something could open up right before hand. And ask each person you talk with where else you could look.
I'd also check with the people you'll be working with at Alltel to see what connections or info they might have to help you out. I really do wish you the best in your transition. I know several people who've found places to hook up their campers (some temporary, some long term.)
We moved to Gillette 5 months ago. My husband works for the city so they were able to help us find a place temporarily to rent. I wish you had that too. This past weekend we closed on a 55 year old home and just moved in. I'm about ready to drop from all the cleaning and moving and stuff. So much fixing up we'll need to do in time. I have to say the buying a home part hasn't been much fun either. You don't get much for your money. But have to make the best of everything, right?
Good luck to you.
