The bad news is that almost every coal mine in Wyoming is currently in a hiring freeze and many are starting to lay off workers. The coal mines up in the Sheridan area have reduced production by 30% or more.

It doesn't make sense because a little over a year ago they were told by the government to up production by 40%.

Rio Tinto is the company to talk to if anybody has positions open. Rio Tinto doesn't own any mines. But they contract to do all the coal removal from them. They handle all work at mines all over Wyoming and Montana. Not sure where else.

NARM is still hiring.... they've been bringing on about 30 people per week in the last couple months. They're still looking... anticipated increase (if they can keep from lighting conveyors and drive houses on fire anyway) of 8-10 million tons total for 2009.

They are purchasing around 20 new haul trucks total this year; I think they already have a few of them on line and in production. They're Komatsu at this point, but if the production time of the Komatsu's stays where it's been and the operators keep putting up resistance about driving them instead of the CAT trucks I wouldn't be surprised to see them go back to the 797's.

I've talked to a few guys in the just the past couple of weeks who have just started or are starting work at various Gillette/Wright mines. So I don't think it's true that they are all in the midst of a hiring freeze. I would definitely call all of the mines directly and see what they have to say. Best of luck as always! We're still awaiting your arrival!

Will you be living in Sleepy Hollow? If so we'll be neighbors, at least for awhile!
