Here's a thread that covered bugs and insects pretty well. Even has some pictures of some of the different critters in these parts.

I have only been here for 6 months. The last summer was heavy on house flys. They tell me it goes in cycles. One year it might be house flies the next grass hoppers or something else. ;-)

Last year, where I live in Sheridan, didn't see any house fly's. But skeeters started up bad. So I sprayed my yard the 1st of June. Sprayed it again in the 3rd week of July. Never got a single mesquito bite and if it's not raining, I'm setting out in a lawn chair, every evening.

What about the giant horned scorpions? I hear they look like orange dogs with horns and run in herds out in the fields!

I heard about them, and I think they feed on the stripped snow snake!

Quit trying to scare off the newbies......you know the rattlers killed off most of the scorpions during the last dry spell.

Navyvet79, I can relate to sitting on the ant pile (from the previous thread you posted). Lived in TX for 5 years. Went to pick up my brother at a boyscout thing once. Had to wait, so I sat down in the grass. Ugh. Red ants. Difficult to be graceful in a moment like that, surrounded by boy scouts... but I tried.

Yeah, TX bugs are the worst (similar to OK I imagine). My mom woke up one morning and found a horrendous bite on her face. Brown recluse. She had a dark spot there for at least a year. We were lucky she was okay. I hate bugs...

What did you spray on your lawn ElkHunter, to keep the mosquitos away?

Yeah, you had me going there for a minute. I even asked my husband about the giant horned scorpions...

So far in WY I've seen flies, wasps, boxelder bugs, and spiders of course.

We had a ton of flies get into our temporary home this summer. We were near road construction, and I think there must have been manure in the dirt they spread. PU. My son and I kept running around with the fly swatters, getting like 2-3 a day. Sigh...

But the wasps were the worst. I am a brave sort when it comes to all sorts of things, but bugs, no. And wasps in my house? It about did me in. Tried to ignore them, couldn't. Then tried to use my broom. Bought gave me a heart attack. Captured a few in tupperware containers until my husband came home. It was awful. Had about 6 in the house at one time. Finally covered up a few spots (vents over the fireplace) where we thought they were coming in. Not sure if that did it, or winter coming along. What is up with the wasps here? At my son's elementary school they were in the playground area too. And there are some trapped (frozen or dead?) in one of my window screens here. I need my husband to get rid of them before the spring sets in, just in case they are frozen... Wasps are creepy.

But all in all, compared with OK or TX, Wyoming bugs aren't so bad I think.
