Are those really crop circles on that ridge? Why is the forest cut out like that?

No, they are not crop circles. Have no clue why that occurs but you can find it on several ridges around there.

Those are clear cut logging parcels, you can see them all over Wyoming and even more up in Montana. The practice has been outlawed. When I was a photog for the Casper Star-Tribune I spent a day in the Medicine Bow NF west of Laramie up in the air photographing them for a story.

That makes sense. Those areas are small, probably an acre in size is all. I wonder if it was cleared because of bark beatles or such. Odd shapes, some small area's, some larger. Trees dieing because of bugs but clear them out while the wood is still good.

I'm going to be in Wyoming in three weeks and I hope I have a ton to share on this wonderful thread. I've been anxiously awaiting for this trip for 2 years now! So much to see, so little time.

Just spent some time in NorthWest Wyoming, mainly Teton Nat'l Park. Must say I loved our visit, it was not our first and definately will not be our last.

Our daughter got engaged at the spot above, Hidden Falls.

After all her boyfriend had no choice, it was either pop the question or remain locked in the food storage bin!!!

Drove up to Cheyenne over Labor Day weekend - here's some video from our trip.

YouTube - Labor Day Weekend, 2009 - Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona & Nevada

There's actually more video in there from Colorado than Wyoming, but visiting Cheyenne was the reason for the trip.

We left on Friday afternoon, and spent the night in Orem, UT. Saturday morning we headed up to I-80 and drove across southern WY. Sunday, we checked out some advertised rental homes in various neighborhoods to see what the different parts of town looked like. After that, we drove down to the Ft. Collins visitor center, and then took the scenic Hwy 14 drive across northern Colorado, then up Hwy 125, and up to Laramie, where we had buffalo burgers for dinner at a local pub.

On Monday, we headed out early for home down I-25 to I-70 west, back towards Las Vegas. It was a lot of driving, but we saw a lot of beautiful country - it was well worth it. Wyoming is a beautiful state, and we hope to make it our home in the next year or so.
