Hanna a "ghost town"? With two booming mine operations going full tilt 24/7?

Has anyone heard anything about the Lakota Indians. Seems they are taking back the land. They decleared themselves a soviern nation about christmas time. They told the government they were turning down the treaties and taking back the land. They said that they were going to put a lean on everyones properties that werent lakota. They are planning to issue thier own passports and money. This is going to be interesting.

I found this information on a Lakota web site after doing a google search. I think it is the official web site....
The head of this movement I found a quote from his stating:
"While we have the right to impose liens on all of the real estate in our country, we prefer to come to resolutions with you all with out resorting to such measures. Accordingly, at this time, we are only declaring liens on real estate held by governments foreign to the Republic of Lakotah, but not on real estate held by private parties."
So I get the impression they are only taking government property....
How much of Wyoming will this affect? I have never heard of such a thing, but after reading your post I did a search to find out more info...

We were looking for something from maybe Sept to Mar. Dealing with frozen water & sewer in the 5th wheel doesn't sound like much fun to me. We also have a dog to consider.
I'v been looking in the Boomerang and tribune and on the town of Medicine Bow website, but haven't seen anything close to Medicine bow yet. It's a little difficult trying to do this so far in advance.
If you hear of any little place that will work, that would be great!

bzbzlady looking for temp housing?
It is interesting that you are worried about frozen sewer pipes and water in a 5th wheel but are retiring to a remote area where there won't be much help, if any, if your well and sewer freeze there. I just don't understand retiring to a place with 10 months of winter, fierce winds, off-the-grid, freezing weather, and miles from any sized grocery store or clothing store or medical help, and then worrying about six months in a 5th wheel when your pipes might freeze. Consider it good practice for the rest of your retirement. It seems to be what you are looking for in terms of how you spend your golden years.

I'd put substantial wager money on it affecting "None of Wyoming". For anyone who would think that Russell Means and a handful of activists declaring Lakotan sovereignty will result in any legal changes from the U.S. government, I've got a hell of a nice bridge to sell you connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan. The Lakota community has more than its share of problems. Publicity stunts (especially when they do not garner a whole lot of publicity because they're so ridiculous) aren't likely to solve any of those problems.

Unfortunatly, I know Russle and Dennis. Not my most proud aquaintence, but I've met both. Means is an activist. Banks is a follower. Russle is selling himself short. He has good intentions but bad workings. He hasn't thought this through. He's just blowing smoke for now.
Land. If they take back the treaties, who gets the land?
Citizenship. If they take back the treatys, does it make them illegal aliens? What country do we deport them to? Don't give me the crap about "Native". They run the ndn's out before them. So are they native? We're talking the Lakota were 5th or 6th generation. The old ones will tell you that. I've been in the sweat lodge and listened to the old ones for hours. It's like reading a book. What the old ones tell you is a never ending story. It goes on and on and is never boring. I could listen for hours and only sleep deprives me of learning.
