Well now Wind River Casino is advertising-come work the slots and view the Eclipse, too.
And Rawlins is bracing for a possible influx if it is cloudy in Casper, and everyone heads south.

Meanwhile, cannot confirm, but maybe some lodging is available in Lysite. Looks like might
accommodate 6 to 8, and is walking distance to store/P.O. Don't know what they would ask
for a night, but considering rates elsewhere, could be 500 a night or so.

I've worked some cattle in Lysite area...was'nt any lodging available to be seen, but that's not to say that the few 'locals' won't allow some RV's and pup-tents to set up around there...

My best advice to anyone thinking of doing so: I would load-up on ice (for coolers) propane/cooking fuel & munchies in Casper/Riverton Walmarts BEFORE heading into Lysite, because the two little gas-station convenience-shops in Shoshoni and one at Waltman will be unable to supply your needs.

Myself, I WAS hoping to have a summer-job lined-up for myself (wrangling dudes) with one of the mountain-lodges on Wyo 16 (from Buffalo to Ten Sleep) but the deal fell through...so I guess I won't be able to watch the Eclipse from the southern-tip of the Bighorns...a shame, cuz that would've been fun being out on the trail horseback @ 10-something AM when it is scheduled to happen.

Stepping outside my motel room these past few mornings, I can already see the moon is ever-so-slowly beginning to move into place, further & further east across the sky, little by little...

Y'know...it's funny, another interesting factoid about the moon, is that 'they' say she's escaping Earth's gravitational-pull, by a certain amount, more & more with each passing yr...so that likely means the elipse-thing won't be nearly as 'exciting' in about 100 yrs or so, when even more of the Sun's corona will be seen...

They could've used you at Jackson Lake Lodge-last I saw they still didn't have dude wranglers
for this summer. I used to know several of the young guys at Pahaska. A guy out of Powell, I think his name was McCoy, had the concession there, but don't think so anymore, don't even know for sure if they are doing horses now.

Apparently you survived Lysite. Lysite's OK, but then I basically like everywhere in Wyoming.
(I am skeptical of Teton County) Anyway, my only concern for Lysite getting their share of
the Ultimate Eclipse Experience traffic is the signs on the road...you know, "Poison Gas Area-
Do Not Leave Roadway" or "If Red Light is Flashing, get the Heck Outta Here" Could be hard
on the tourist traffic. Probably better chance of Yellowstone blowing up right before Eclipse
than an H2s release at Lost Cabin.

Ahhh yes, the 'Real McCoys'...already had the (pleasure ?) of running into them when they were managing Heart-6 (in Moran) many-moons ago. Nope. Not again.

Talked with Pahaska about a dishwashing-job (just to keep a roof over my head) and HR-lady said she "did'nt think I'd get along 'well' with the millennials 'in-charge' there"...so I dodged THAT bullet as well.

JLL seems to have an issue finding and keeping help, might have something to do with them stacking & packing FOUR to a room (in the dorms) these past few yrs, since I last worked their corrals in 09'.

...ahh yes...I could write a book about the train-wrecks, caused by iPod-wearing joggers & 'extreme-mountain-biking' afficionado's, blasting down the rocky horse-trails...

...strangely I never once ran into (or across) any moose or grizz, while on horseback...either cowboying or wrangling dudes...

Lysite was...'Lysite'. I was helping Rob Hendry's crew with 'fall-scatter', about a decade ago. Yes, I survived it...and the 'Sugar-Bowl' everybody warned me about, was'nt S***

I came out of there with about a hundred-pair, with ol' Rob screaming his fool-head off, from a bluff 3 miles away...no I could'nt understand what he was saying...and no, I did'nt care either.

But what DID excite me was the 'BFH' (acronym for 'Big Effing Hole') located out by an abandoned Uranium-pit...VERY deep, southwest of Waltman, if I remember correctly...

...THAT was indeed, a VERY big effing hole !

We visited Wyoming a couple of years ago during a trip to YNP. I remember the William Cody dam site, the drive through the Bighorn Mountains, Kings saddle shop and museum and lunch in Buffalo. I really liked the State and even bough a bottle of Wyoming Whiskey. We would consider relocating but if I wanted that much snow and cold I could stay here.
I don't think you're the kind of visitor the OP was directed at. Maybe I'm wrong, but the Phishhead type of invasion is more in line with the thread title...I am so glad CO is not prime eclipse viewing, because the existing flood of pot-seekers is already bad enough.

There was a solar eclipse when I was a kid. The classes made time for kids to observe it, but the event didn't get the massive commercial hype that this one does. Must be a lot of old people trying to "bag" it so they can say they saw TWO in their lifetimes.

Eclipses are neat to watch, but (other than the fact that it seems painfully clear that some semblance of 'intelligent-design' was behind 'sizing' AND placing our one, single-satellite at an EXACT distance between Earth and our parent-star in such a way as to blot-out said-star) eclipses are seriously lacking in 'substance', compared to the most recent 'Blood-Red Moon/Tetrads'...ALL of which ('just by coincidence' ? ?) occurred on SPECIFIC points on Jewish-calendar...

...but it's the last Venus-transit that jerked my attention.

2nd planet ('The Morning Star') transited her most 'mid-point' between Earth & Sun at EXACTLY 6pm, on the 6th day, of the 6th month, of 2012.

Certainly not trying to suggest that I am one 'who hath wisdom'...but it IS difficult for me to ignore certain specific irritatingly-obvious factoids which occured on that day AND 6 months later, on 21st December 2012 when both the Mayan & Egyptian calendar-clocks screeched to an abrupt halt.

Thankfully our planet did'nt crack in half, nor were the poles reversed, and dogs & cats still don't enjoy each other's company, far as I am aware...

Without coming right out and saying it...does anybody know what (or 'who') else has been nick-named 'The Morning Star' ? ? ?

I dunno...just something about the annoyingly-obvious sequence of 'sixes', coupled with everything else just kindof creeped-me-out...and I'm surprised no one else noticed...

...and then all the blood-red-moons, in the yrs since...

If you're secular-minded, none of it will mean anything to you, I guess...

Lt, I'll get serious for a moment, since you asked...."I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you
this testimony to the churches, I am the Root, and Offspring of David, and the Bright and
Morning Star." Rev. 22:16 (I believe that's what you are referencing)

When you get right down to it, southwest of Waltman would actually be more directly under
the path than Lysite, which will be slightly north of it. So similar preps to what you advised
would be in order to head for the Gas Hills or Castle Gardens, Definitely not much out there,
might as well stop at Hell's Half Acre, but I bet it will get crowded since it's on the highway.

(You may have run into it already, but if not, and you want a good read sometime, John
McPhee's book, Rising From The Plains, is an interesting read about Wyoming geology and
the Love family's various pioneer adventures in the Gas Hills/Castle Gardens area. ) I like
your idea of being out with a horse because I would like to see the horse's reaction to it.

Your plain, average ranch-horse probably would'nt bat an eye or even twitch an ear, during an eclipse...

...a mule, however...they are ever so slightly smarter & deceptively more 'aware' of thier surroundings.

I will be listening for a difference in 'bird-chatter' and I'm betting the dogs in this little town will get nervous...coyotes will likely run to thier dens ?

As for 'Morning Star', I'm not entirely clear on that part you shared; I was however referring to 'Lucifer', the fallen-one, who was so named because of it's 'vanity' & Venus is of course the most beautiful & instantly recognizable object in the sky, next to our Sun & moon.

Got back into town and the grocery store has a whole Eclipse 2017 section. You got shot
glasses, coffee cups, those lid-on-drink cup thingies, key chains, and t-shirts, of course. I
did note that Wyoming Whiskey, which we were discussing earlier, has an Eclipse Whiskey
out.

The benefit of that product is that it should sell regardless of whether the Eclipse is a
dud, due to clouds, etc. This other stuff, I dunno, will the Greenies still buy it if the big
show is a disappointment? Could be like those SuperBowl t-shirts they make up early,
and then the other team wins. I think Eclipse 2017 Bathroom Tissue might be an item
that could sell regardless of outcome. (But the tolerance fee charged at the border is
still the surest shot at some solid revenue)
