Lots of people have moved into Sheridan. No worries. Weatherby company moving there from Paso, so a few Californians already. Sheridan High defending state football champions (highest classification). In lower classification, also Big Horn High and Tongue River High football teams.

I expect you'll be fine.

Heck, I immigrated from Detroit almost 40 years ago and never had anyone even ask where I was from.

When it does come up people ask in disbelief how I got here. I tell 'em I got lucky. And we all laugh. A smile and a sense of humor goes a long way in most situations.

Planning to fly out to Sheridan next week for a job interview. We currently have a great place here, small ranch, we run cattle and have sheep and chickens. Where we are now it's very Republican and conservative. We shoot our guns and live simply. But California has never felt like home to us. Moved here from Northern Nevada cause family convinced us to move closer when our son was born. That was back in 2003 and economy in Nevada tanked. Hubby works for John Deere as a master tech and we bleed green.
I lived in places like Minnesota when I was a kid and am no stranger to cold and snow. Hubby grew up on an 800 acre cattle ranch.
Just looking for a better life for our son who is 15 now. He is big into playing high school football.
So tired of California politics and the sinking ship this state is. Hoping we will be welcomed there in Sheridan.

Do you and your family members have good personalities? Do you generally have a positive outlook on life? Are you looking to fit in instead of trying to change the new place into what you just left?

If you answered each of those questions with a “yes”, then I predict you’ll be just fine no matter where your life takes you.

What amazes me is that 2nd on the list after LV is New York. It would be interesting to look up the stats on those cities as far as how many leave there. Or leave there for CA. (probably not many in that case).

How about a Californian originally from Michigan but lived all over. I'm entirely too conservative for Ca. Sick of traffic and people. I want a place with seasons, other than mud, fire hot and hotter. Just want to be left alone with my dogs and mini horses that I'd like to raise. The problem is I've been a neonatal nurse for the past 30+ years. There doesn't seem to be a lot of jobs unless I live in Gillette or any of the larger town. I'd like a town of around 2000.
I promise not to try and change anything.

All people in a town that size will hear is California and you're not one of us so you're against us.

Why don't you tell her about your being run out of Wyoming—and Montana before that?

I left Montana by my own choice. Many people criticized me for leaving and still do. Nice try though.

I'm not sure I'd say I was "run out of" Wyoming either. I didn't get hired in a lot of places I applied likely since I'm not from there.

I also have a very hard time believing you wouldn't be one of those small town people that would hear California and automatically be suspicious.
