WyoNewk does a good job of summarizing Gillette. I've been here going on two years, and it's a great Wyoming city. It's clean, updated, nice infrastructure, good restaurants, etc. The County Rec center is like the Taj Mahal, as has been mentioned. Obviously shopping is lacking when compared to Casper, Billings, Rapid City, etc. A quick drive over to Buffalo and the base of the Big Horns is only 50 minutes, so it's not like it's hours away from the mountains. It's also nice that the wind in Gillette is not nearly as intense as in cities like Casper, Laramie, Cheyenne, Rawlins, etc. I think it often still gets a bad rap from many across the state, maybe because of past conditions several decades ago. I believe there are worse cities you could live in, Rawlins and Riverton just to name two, no offense to anyone living in those towns.

Glad it is working for brown eyed. For the OP here? No follow up, yet.

Haven't been to either in decades, but way back when, Gillette reminded me of Santa Cruz before it got all built up. Probably not a useful comparison today, but maybe not so foreign if you think of it that way.
