We are considering a job in Lander, Wy. Riverton housing is more affordable and I am wondering how the winter commute would be to Lander. We are from Utah and are used to snow but we also have the convience of an abundance of snow plows. Can you please give me some input? How is wy 789 morning and evening commutes in the winter? How many times was it closed this winter? Also how often are the schools closed due to snow? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I cant really remember a time in which it was closed this winter. There was time of no uneccesary travel and bad roads but not closed. There alot of people on that road in the morning commuting both ways. I only had to put it in 4 wheel drive once this year and for my thats saying alot becuase I hardly ever use it

I used to commute from Lander to Riverton for work. I really only remember 2 or 3 times that the road was closed in the 3 years that I worked over there. Typically if I could wait until 8:30 am or so to leave, the roads were always clear from those that had to be there by 8am.

It's funny, when I lived in Riverton, I commuted to Lander for work....and then when I lived in Lander, I commuted to Riverton for an extra job!

The roads aren't that bad....only a day or two that I ever remember having to pull over because I couldn't see the road (but that was back in the early 90's).

The nice thing, is it's not that far.....gives you a chance to let the "worries of the day melt away" before and after work!
