Pamida in Buffalo
For anyone here who is researching Buffalo, there are plans to build a Pamida on 16-W in the Shiloh subdivision. This should be good for anyone who is getting tired of driving 30 minutes north to Sheridan to shop at Wal-Mart. I'm sure the selection won't be as big as Wal-Mart, but it's more than we have now.
I wonder what the longtime locals in this area think of the store coming into town? The Buffalo Bulletin had an article this week stating that it will take away the small town atmosphere that Buffalo has. I personally don't think that's necessarily true.

I read that article...
I think it is kind of neat, so you don't have to drive the extra 30 miles to Sheridan...

Boy oh Boy oh Boy - I certainly hope Pamida builds you all a nice store like is in either Wheatland or Newcastle. We have a Pamida in Torrington and it is a dump - dirty, small, crowded store that never has the items advertised in the local paper and if they do, never at the price advertised. I know it's not all Pamidas because I've been to the other two mentioned. I just really wish they would either update and/or improve our Pamida or give up and let someone else try. I commented once that it would be nice if Pamida would invest in our store like they have others, and the clerk said they don't because they don't have to. They have a captive market here in Torrington because otherwise, we have to drive 35 miles for supplies. Every time I leave that store after buying just essentials, I swear to myself that I won't go back. Any other Torringtonites feel the same?

What's a Pamida?
I have been considering downsizing and moving my woodworking shop up to the Buffalo area for a while. I have been wondering how far you had to go for large store shopping. I am from upstate SC and I have never heard of a Pamida. Is it like Walmart?

It is a mass merchandiser but on a much, much smaller scale than Wal-mart. Yet, they have really everything you need and are quite convient in small cities like Buffalo. In fact, their market is cities Buffalo's size. They just entered their largest market by opening one in Omaha, but that is just because they have been headquatered in Omaha for years and they just felt like they should have a store there. No plans to into large markets.
Anyway, I would be too worried about Pamida running out small business. The only one that might be in real danger would be a small variety store or something like that. Like I said, Pamida's market is smaller cities and towns and they don't seem to have a reputation of running locals out.
By they way, I have heard many great things about their pharamacy.

We also have a family dollar, so between the two, and the Ace Hardware, Bloedorne's Lumber and DJ's variety store, we should be able to get just about anything.

I am officially moving to Buffalo. But I have good reasons to shop in Sheridan. Grandkids live there. Grandkids live there. And did I mention, grandkids live there. So, while visiting, I'll just have to naturally stop and shop. hahaha
But I am glad that Buffalo is getting set a little better. There's always those nights when you need a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk or even more.
Have they started building? How about a progress report? I'll be moving down next month.

Welcome to Buffalo
Oh yes, they've started building. The structure has been up for some time now. It's been moving along rapidly. Some friends of mine live in the narrow two-story house across the street from it and are pretty upset that the new store is going to block their view of the mountain peaks. Last I read was that they're supposed to open this fall. Should be nice!
Welcome to Buffalo! What part of town will you be moving to? The Buffalo residents of the forum should get together for some drinks and a friendly game of poker at the Occidental Saloon!

That sounds like it would be a fun time.
We are excited about the Pamida. Even though it is not a Walmart. Coming from a big city (Phoenix) I kind of miss the retail stores. I sure don't spend as much money as I did in the big city.

I'm all for that!!!! I'm moving to a spot about 3 miles West of town. Down a long dirt road. Towns don't thrill me, but it's just me. Where I live now in Sheridan is in city limits, but you have to go down the county road outside of the city for about 3/4 miles in order to get to my place.
I think that we could make a heck of a breakfast club, or evening club, or get together for a beer club. Buffalo residents need to band together. haha
I have, in my years in Wyoming, never been to any night spots in Buffalo. I refuse to drive after having a drink and Buffalo has always been a long drive back. haha My Son-in-law works there and if you've been there for more then a week, you've met him.
I'm easy to spot, I drive a black 4 wheeler licensed in Wyoming. Got a snow blade on the front. Hell, my truck gets 12 mpg, 4 wheeler pushing snow still gets 36 mpg. Last winter, I kept driveways clear on 8 different houses. Every time it snowed. Now, if I was to charge them, I'd probably make some good beer money. hahaha
