Actually, you can read about Narcissa Whitman and her journals/diary here:
PBS - THE WEST - The Letters and Journals of Narcissa Whitman 1836-1847

She was one of the first white women to cross the Rockies on the Oregon Trail along with Eliza Spalding. A monument of sorts was erected in their honour at the summit of South Pass.

Here is another site where you can look into women's diaries:

We got directions from a gal running the visitor center in South Pass City. I can't recall if she gave me a map or drew one for me. She gave us two or three to chose from. The visitor center person might also know about cemeteries or graves in the area. I think we were there May 18, 1996, and they were just opening up the visitor center for the season.

I noticed detailed info about the Trail in several visitor centers last fall.

This is an interesting link about women on the Trail.
Triumph & Tragedy : The Women

A couple of books that are good: Women's Voices from the Oregon Trail: Times That Tried Women's Souls.

Guide to Women's History Along the Oregon Trail.

I am sorry I am not remembering the authors.

That was very interesting. I'll try to see if I can find the books you mentioned. Thanks!
