We were lucky. When we went from Wal-Mart, to Super Wal-Mart, they kept the same building and just added on so we didn't have anything standing empty. But that's it, Home Depot and Wal-Mart are the only big chains we have in Sheridan. OH, and K-Mart at the North end of town. But they don't get much business. Seldom ever see more then about 20 cars in the parking lot.
I think because Sheridan is at a little of an angle or something I get ALL SCREWED up on my directions there - seems like the mountains arn't really to the west & I ALWAYS forget I'm on I-25 & not I-90 so yeah, I feel like I'm coming into it from the west, not the north. My bad on directions - and DON'T try to keep me from turned around in the Black Hills!!! I know my way around like the back of my hand, but not where north is! LOL!!!

Yep - we have an old k-Mart on MY end of town (across town from Walmart) & esp. since they were snagged up by Sears the prices are AWFUL (groceries are cheaper at Albertsons!!) & looking for it to get closed anytime. Shelves half empty & almost never anybody there. Hate the idea for employees but hope they will put something worthwhile in that area, but again will be stuck w/another box store SO ugly...and they are really building up Yellowstone Ave - new medical office building (the old one was built in about the 40's & remodeled about 700 times every time a new doc comes & added a floor during the years but built at the top of a rim (with the hospital...) so no parking for either. So betting a big parking lot on the old site) & putting in a much larger Harley shop - so THAT is OK..LOL - we just had a little one in a downtown "slot" (Beartooth Harley - from Billings) & will be in a strip mall out there across from WalMart. They are also putting in a Walgreens now RIGHT on the main crossroads downtown where 14/16/20, 14A, & the Belfry Hwy come together which have now turned into mini-box buildings. But this town really makes the put a lot into making them esthetically pleasing. Super walmart went thru hell getting their exterior & landscaping plan approved. LOL!!! So, guess we all end up with those ugly-arse buildings eventually if you continue to grow . And apparetly an Applebee's - that's the rumor; we'll see....gimme a mom & pop restaurant ANY day...

If you EVER are in Cody Tues - Sat, you HAVE to try the new restaurant "Hungry Bear" on Big Horn ave (a.k.a., Powell Hwy, US 14-A). Peace out!!

wyomama -- not to confuse you more but wanted to let you know that you are on I-90 going thru Sheridan not I-25. I-25 starts in Buffalo.

Oh God - yeah - see???????? I just drive it - don't pay attention to what highway I am on...I went on a 4000 mile road trip last autumn to Cleveland, down to WV by back roads & back home in totally unknown territory w/o so much as a map. I just drive in the right direction knowing I'll get there eventually. I took 1 bad turn in each direction, each taking me out of my way about 20 miles. So who needs maps??? God I sound like a MAN!! LOL!!!!

I didn't look at all the City Data forum information yet. From other searches on towns in other states, I've not found it to be the most accurate information. It conflicts with a lot of information I get from people and other reports.) It's a good base to start with though.
I have to agree. Family and I went our to NC and SC years ago to look and everyone said how great it was, most defended their city/state very harsh. We went there, had fun. We did. But we ALL were happy we went home. Not some where I call home. Very poor areas. The upper class area are the same people that lived in the lower class areas that finally got a job and moved up. I could go on, but I agree. Online information is ONLY A STARTING POINT. After you narrowed it down. Go there and visit. See if it's home to you.
