Default Wapiti, Wyoming

No City Data information on Wapiti. Looks like a great location on the map!

Weather can be a little harsh in that area but Cody is right down the road for employment and shopping.

I think last winter the winds only hit 125+ in that area.

REALLY! I would have thought the exact opposite, given the location on the map. What about Pahaska?

Wapiti is becoming kind of Resortish now. There is a big construction firm up there building a lot of high end houses. Its definitely not like it use to be when I was a kid or even five years ago for that matter. As far as Pahaska goes you are pretty much in the middle of nowhere to the west less than 10 miles is the east entrance of Yellowstone and about 60 mile east is Cody. From the looks of all your city posts you are looking at places that have very little humna population if any and not much else there.

Living in Minneapolis right now (and being a country and nature guy) I just need to be away from a lot of people. I like peace and quiet but I want to be a part of a small community that's active with each other. I guess I'm looking for the quintessential town that doesn't really exist anymore, but who can blame me?

I just want a quiet, peaceful, friendly, rest of my life somewhere where I can still buy a parcel of good, decent, productive land without getting gouged in the price and that's still a bit of a throwback to yesteryear.

This kind of simplicity is asking too much today, I'm afraid.

It really is asking too much these days also a town to look it has a population under 1000 is Meeteetse. I totally understand you and someday I hope to to be able to live on at least 100 acres that time will come in due time.

Howdy SL, don't know if you'd be interested in the SE part of the state-Medicine Bow area, that's where I'm moving in June. City-data says there's only a population (last census) of 276. I've talked to some folks via email and it sounds like a right quiet, friendly place.

Dubois is a beautiful area (less than 1000 people), but getting a little pricey thanks to all the millionaires who can no longer afford to live in Jackson Hole....

Fremont County has some really nice little towns that truely are just a post office (Crowheart, Pavillion) or even Lander is nice.

Anything on the East side of the state is really flat, hot, and you HAVE to irrigate in order to grow anything. But the West side is more expensive.

Good luck in your search!

WyoMama is on a distinguished road
OK - how many here are IN Wyo? I am in Cody. It is a GATED community going into the Wapiti valley that we fought for years to keep out & is going to have ENORMOUS impact on everything imaginable here. Wapiti is a no go for cell phone service - and that goes for most of Wyo - is FULL of holes. Pahaska is Pahaska Tepee - a rubber tomahawk shop outside the east gate. Isn't a community at all. Wapiti USED to be OK - nothing there but a steakhouse with a bar, post office & a school but now a lot of $$ ppl & there is very little "community". Cody is OK - and the wind isn't bad here at all compared to most of the state & we get very little snow compared to most of the state because storms fly over us or hit Heart mountain & head east. Climate changes. We have a short growing season - we put things in the ground with a wing & a promise at the end of May & you MAY get until mid-Sept before harvest because it will start to freeze at night. Cody is very cliquish & most community things are attended by out of towners (tourist town - which I DIDN'T KNOW when I moved here from southeast Wyo 20 yr ago; I had a job here so just moved!). But like any other town in Wyo finding housing is wicked. The property prices are beyond ridiculous. We get the run-off from Jackson too not those that can't afford to be in Jackson but there is so much Wilderness in Wyo that you run out of places to build/buy. I don't really recommend Cody for a lot of ppl....closest shopping is Billings, MT, 110 miles. In town we have a LOT of art galleries, a few ladies clothing stores, about 10 coffee shops or more, a bunch of franchise biz's/restaurants, WALMART (GAG!!!!). And your phone will work off & on outside of town. Meeteetse is about 32 miles south - but almost no cell phone coverage between the 2. Meeteetse is OK but very cliquish too - old families there and can be a little disinterested in new blood. Is hard to pick a place that has all you ask for - and most of it is finding a place that has good cell phone / internet!! You can get satellite in most places & pay out the nose for it but you have to stay on the south sides of hills & no trees when you buy which are the hot sides.
