Sheridan vs Buffalo
How do Sheridan and Buffalo compare when it comes to considering each town (and surrounding areas) to relocate to? More specifically, how do they compare in crime, job market, pay scales and rental markets? How about in folks and scenery? Prices?
And, just as a reference, how much is gas around there right now? Here in downtown Minneapolis, it's $3.45.

Crime wise, I couldn't tell you. Different agencies report their crime differently. For instance, one town won't admit a meth problem because it will drag down tourism. The next town will admit a meth problem because it gets them better funding.
But, I don't think crime in either town is a problem.
Job market? A lot of people in Buffalo commute to Sheridan for work. But there's some that commute to Buffalo for work also. Jobs are more prevalent in Sheridan, by far.
Rentals, Sheridan has none and Buffalo has a few.
Not much help, was I?

Gas and food is much cheaper in Sheridan. Regular unleaded cost $3.45 this morning, and diesel was $4.20. Sheridan is usually about $.20 cheaper I think. Milk, bread & eggs are $.75 to over a $1 cheaper there, too.

Honesty always helps. No one claimed I'd find Mayberry! Thanks ElkHunter.

Thanks nayvet79. You know, Wyoming is a very different state. Unlike any I've researched before. I went to YouTube to see if anyone had any videos about Sheridan, Buffalo, etc., There were some great ones and some really stupid ones - usually by bored kids.
I think Wyoming is going to take a few visits to be able to see all of the places I'm interested in fairly. Thanks again!

It really depends on what you're looking for. Buffalo is a nice, small community; cost of living is pretty high though. I have some friends that moved from Buffalo to Ft Collins a few years back just because they have kid/grandkids down there....but they loved Buffalo.
Sheridan is nice as well, but "bigger" by Wyoming standards! Depending on what your looking for as far as a job....you'll find better luck in Sheridan I think.
Both are beautiful places...just cost an arm and leg to live there.

WY housing has always been pretty cyclical. While the current energy crisis is not likely to go away soon, I would say the 'speculative' nature of energy will mean COL (housing, food, lodging) is currently priced on the high end, and supply of course is VERY short, but I feel this will change for those who can wait. (pretty tough to live under a bridge in WY, like we do in PNW)
Probably the energy prices will ratchet way up, the profits (and consumers) will be scalped, then everyone will get used to it (energy will stay high), but the 'boom' will 'bust', and there will again be wind blowing though empty WY houses. Not sure what will turn the money spigot off, but likely the corporations will go bust or find a cheaper way to get rich and bail out of WY (temporarily). Housing will adjust, and a series of really rotten winters will chase some away. But with 'connectivity / work from anywhere' + low taxes + aging population looking for great places to live (And Sheridan / Buffalo filling that need)... there will be a 'soft' landing in housing there, rather than the 'ghost towns' of the early 1980's when energy pulled the plug in WY.
Folks will be sharing the trips to Billings and maybe horse trailers will come back full of "goods" once / month. I would expect a co-op group; sharing trips and shopping at 'Walmart' / Costco would be a good idea.

I just meant that Buffalo and Sheridan are a higher COL than Casper, Gillette, Cheyenne, etc.
there are some co-ops around, and you have to find the "right crowd" to find people to share trips/shopping....but it's well worth looking! Casper has Sam's Club (the answer to PNW's Costo)....or Billings has one of the warehouse suppliers as well.

coudn't have said it better! Guess it will depend on your need an salary expectations! GAS went up 10 cents today-could be a real burden for commuters? Boom is slowly deflating-half the methane trucks an workers we used see in the morn! Myself and only myself - I do not forsee a lowering of home prices in either town-If your lookin for a bust -it is not gonna happen! In my humble opinion -BUFFALO WOULD BE MY CHOICE- I LOVE MY SHERIDAN TOWN BUT IT IS RAPIDLY BECOMEING ALMOST UNATAINABLE BY ANY ONE BUT THE RICH- AN THE WORKING CLASS ARE BEING RUN OUT!
