Wyoman, just let me tell you, I have eaten every type of wild game possible, I have cooked it myself a 1000 different ways, and with the exception of the Thai Venison Meatballs , the Wild Boar was, IMO, quite possibly the worst thing I've ever eaten. I am a great cook, and a confirmed foodie(although, now vegetarian) but let me tell you, even Emeril Lagasse couldn't have done anything with that tough old thing, lol! Like cutting through a pile of rubberbands!! My dogs liked it though!

Huh!!!! That all sounds SOOO familiar!!!!!!
There is a lot of snow in a lot of areas of Wyo - it comes & goes & we have very defined seasons. Autumn is DEFINITELY autumn, spring is very specifically spring, etc. That is one thing I love best about Wyo.
"Honky tonks" are not what I've seen lot of in Wyo - thinking maybe some of those places you are visualizing are more in the Nashville area, TX, Iowa, Nebraska, OK, places like that. We do have one "honky tonk" type of place with a nice dance floor here in Cody - Cassie's. Is an OLD restaurant/bar but is REALLY expensive - like everything in Cody. But it is pretty cool & does have a nice dance floor. A good deal of the towns in Wyo have all types of music to dance to - in Cody we have 3 bars w/live music. One is "head-banging" music, one more classic R&R, & 1 (Cassie's) is country. We are biker friendly, & Cooter Browns has Biker Night every Wednesday. But there are "cowboys" in some of them. Most of the REAL cowboys are a long way from town. That's what the nightly rodeo is for. No dancig there, but that's where the cowboys are - actually a lot of them end up at Whisky River bar after each rodeo but very seldom live music - kareoke 1 nite a wk. But real working cowboys are not plentiful in towns.

my trip
Hi, cowgirl.
Let me introduce myself. I am an 18 year veteran law enforcement officer from the southeast US. I recently went to the StarValley area to visit a friend and his family, and while I was there, I applied for a job with the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office. I have seen enough death, destruction, and by-God, Hurricanes in my 42 years that I had to consider some place better to raise my 4 sons.
I went in the very worst time of the year to visit. April. Snow 3 feet deep in places. BE ADVISED. 40 degrees in TN will freeze your cali booty off, where a sweater is enough in 10 degree Wyo weather.
Anyway, back to the point. I had tears in my eyes when I boarded the plane in Jackson Hole. I have never been anywhere I wanted to stay more. I am still waiting for the call on the job. You are on here talking about making a life decision to find a place to live. You will be hard pressed to find a better place than Wyoming.
Check out crime stats on citydata on Memphis, Jackson TN. As rough as any Cali town you might have visited. Just be careful in the SE US.
Best of luck.

Thanks!
Thanks for the post. I've been reading various Western Threads for some time to determine where I might like to relocate. I am weary of the Northeast and eager to leave. I have been looking at the West for relocation. This post has confirmed my desire to leave NE behind and head to Wyoming ASAP. Wyoming sounds awesome and the place for me.
