Default RV camping near Jackson Hole

Does anyone know of any free places to stay for one night near Jackson Hole? We'll be coming from West Yellowstone the night before to drop my parents off at the airport in the morning. I'm pretty sure there aren't any rest area's or truck stops near Jackson, so maybe a place in Grand Teton Nat'l Park? Or how about the KMart in Jackson?

I know Walmart does but none in Jackson...don't know about kmart. I would just call the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce. I know free tent camping places but not for RV's. There are several parking areas in the park and the surrounding area but they do not allow overnight camping.

Overnight camping isn't allowed in the national parks except in campgrounds, but free "boondocking" is allowed on U.S. Forest Service land. I don't believe the Bridger-Teton National Forest is far from Jackson, so you might look into dispersed camping there. Some restrictions apply -- I think you must be 100 feet off established roads but within 300 feet, and at least 200 feet from lakes or streams, etc. (I'm not an authority on it; just going by things I've read in the past.)

It might be best to contact the Jackson Ranger District:

Basically what's not parkland is in the BTNF. A fav place to camp is the Slide Lake Campground, about 20 min from Jackson in the Gros Ventre area. Their is a small fee but it's a nice place to camp. Curtis Canyon campground is closer but not a good one with an RV. Steep road with several switchbacks.
