So there is no State income tax. That's great.... how do they make up for it? The liscence tag for my 95 Olds was $54.00 this year. What does it cost to liscence a vehicle in Wyoming? Are groceries taxed in Wyoming?

they make up for most of it by taxing the energy industry.there is no 'personal property tax,'sales tax is about on par with the rest of the country, gas tax is one of the lowest in the country, property tax is fairly low.

Groceries are not taxed in Evanston. Some towns have a grocery tax - or say they do - and they look at me as if I'm crazy when I tell them that we don't. Plates will run you about the same - and while you need a bill of sale, they still figure any tax on a new purchase based on book-value. Only 10 bucks to transfer a title (it may vary county-to-county so, check that out).
No state vehicle or IM inspection but stay up on the p/w - and if you or your vehicle are commercial at all - jump through every hoop ahead of time.

Default grocery tax

There is no longer a tax on groceries in WY. I just got new tags for one of our trucks - a '96, 3/4 ton, extended cab and it was $117. It is expensive to license a new vehicle the first time as you have to pay sales tax.

I got ahold of a piece of information about registering a vehicle that had been registered previously in another state that said the first time you register that vehicle and get plates, it would cost about $600.00. Is there any truth to that.

Default vehicle license fees

It didn't cost us that when we moved here from MN. We had to license 2 vehicles and a stock trailer and it didn't cost that much for all three.

Default Wyoming Taxes

Your getting some good data, some that is not so good.

State income tax NO
Property Tax, YES Based on property value
Grocery Tax NO for 2 years. It just started. But it has an exp date.
Sales Tax, YES 6% most everywhere. Some towns charge an extra penny for their parks and stuff.
Vehicles. Car License plates are based on Year and Model of car.
Pickups, you take it down and weigh it, license is based on weight. Obviously a 12000 lb pickup tears up more of the road then a 10000 lb pickup truck.

No School taxes. Well, there is. But its very small. 55% of the state is state owned land and is leased to farmers and ranchers. In 1920 that money and land was set aside to run the schools. That keeps them going. However, in 1920 they didn't have things like busses. So yes, we pay a school tax. I think on my house last year it was about $35. towards schools.

Good answer gussler! Just wanted to add that Evanston has never had a grocery tax - glad to see the rest of the state jumping on-board.

We didn't take either of our trucks down and weigh them. They used the GVW. Which we adjust as we pull a 5th wheel stock trailer. Our sales tax here is 5%. Property tax is not based on the property value but on the assessed value. This is determined by the state and the county assessor's office. Every few years your property is re-assessed.

I moved to Park county in November 1997- I had bought a 1997 truck in Montana in May. I was charged $600+ dollars to get my plates in Montana. When I got my new plates in Wyoming , May 1998, I also paid $600. I have a 1998 truck now, and I paid almost $300 this year. I have never taken it in to have it weighed. I think it goes by the original cost or the Bluebook estimate of the vehicle., I am not sure. I also have a 2002 small car- it is not as expensive as the truck, and I paid $18.00 more this year for plates than I did for the truck. You asked about other 'fees', yes, I have to pay $130.00 each year for 7 acres of irrigation water.
