by someone in Goshen County, over the past 100 years or earlier. Entries will be
collected through May. Entry forms may be obtained at D&B Fine Furniture,

Wish I lived closer to Torrington - they didn't have anything like that when I lived in Wheatland in the '80's... I LOVE looking at antique or even just old quilts!!!!! Thanks tho Is 360 miles from Cody.

My grandmother quilted. I remember going to her house when I was a small kid. She kept all her spools. Used to stack them up, build houses and such. Hundreds of spools. Grocery bags full of them. Better then store bought toys.

Wyomama, I wish a tent would work! My 30'x50' multi-media studio contains a wide variety of equipment. Relocating my studio is more troublesome than moving my household stuff!

sixofone, thanks for the posts about the quilt show. I will love to go see the exhibit.

I have organized a quilt show of patterns used by the Underground Railroad to be displayed at the school when we unveil the art piece for the front of the school. These are not all antique quilts since the patterns they used then are timeless. What amazed my was the amount of information the quilt makers were able to incorporate into their stitches and patterns.

wyomama - I'm 5'11" and when I was in school they didn't have "tall" sizes and I had to make most of my clothes too and it's been over 30 yrs that I made my wedding dress. I"ve done the crocheting, knitting, etc. over the years and started to "handsew" a quilt a couple years ago - not knowing exactly what I was doing and it was for my mother - big blocks - hand sewn X's through the middle. I'm now on my third one - from a quilters catalog and it's for my sister's queen size bed. I'm hoping to be living out there by the end of summer and it's nice to know that there will be folks I can talk to that have similiar interests that I have.

Hey weezy!! You bet; will you be moving to the Cody area?

We all have to start our crafts someway!!! I started with a crop of hot pot holders & then the ones I kept caught fire pulling something out of the oven! LOL!! Now I have the silver-backed filler for fire-retardant in case I do them again. Then I went to the over-sized king sized. Funny thing is - hard & fast handquilters can't imagine why machine quilters would "tarnish" the craft by doing it on a machine & machine quilters can't imagine why hand-quilters would spend months working on a project you could complete in a weekend or so. EASY!!! WHO CAN AFFORD TO DO THAT MANY???????? LOL!!!! Expensive hobby but I'd buy fabric before food anymore I wish to heck I could get to the Torrington exhibit to see the antique / vintage quilts. Too far tho...I'm glad Elkhunter hasn't moved this to hobbies - THANK YOU!!!! I appreciate it because I am trying to find local quilters - no quilters from all over the nation

WyoMama, looks like Cody is where we'll be heading to shortly. There are a few places around here that women get together to "quilt." I went to one a few times but some ladies were making jackets, totes and the quilts were sewn together there but sent out to be "quilted" by machine. So, I ended up buying a 14" hoop and stay at home and work on my quilt at my pace and spare time. My stitches aren't the best since I just can't get the knack of "rocking" my needle so I do either one stitch at a time and now and then get brave enough get two stitches lol. It's great to find someone else that isn't into the machine stitching too. Hope you can find a few more women in the area that would be interested in getting together perhaps once a week and when I get out there you can count me in on it.

There is an art to handquilting. Weezy, I'm with you on the "rocking" your needle problem! My SIL has a long frame set up for her handquilting. Her needle just flys - it is a wonder to watch her sew!

I am old fashion enough to believe that "real" quilts need to be completely made by hand. But I have seen an awesome machine that sewed patterns you programed as you pleased. Some were very detailed.

I wanted to tell you that a quilt won an art exhibit! The maker hand dyed her fabric and used the star pattern. It was hand quilted - queen size I think. It was just beautiful.
