The reason some of the hospitals in Wyo don't deliver babies is because if you don't have a MD/DO on staff who is privileged to perform c-sections, you can't have OB. You never know when an emergent C/S is necessary. AND, if that sometimes ONE doc takes time off for continuing education or vacation or is SICK, have to close your OB!!! Is a pain...!!!!
Every state has different standards & many states (like Wyo right now) does not have enough CNM's to self-police & make it worth the $$ to the state to license. There are a lot of things not licensed in Wyo that ARE licensed in other states - including tattooing (just threw that in - but is true!). My sis had 2 babies by CNM's in Oregon & loved it.

I have lived in Sheridan most of my life and have never heard of babies being delivered at the VA here. There is no OB/GYN up there.

provided a woman has a low-risk pregnancy without any complications, I would say the BEST place to deliver is at home (no one taking the baby away to do "tests", no chance of giving your baby some fatal amount of heparin or some other drug, nice warm environment to bring in your child where the child was conceived). But, if there are problems, or if a woman just happens to WANT to deliver in a hospital...I'd say that Douglas hospital has the nicest L&D rooms....though I've never delivered there myself, I have friends that have.
No offense against Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, but they really need to update their OB ward.....on post-partum, 2 women share a room and 2 rooms share a bathroom (so, doing the math....4 bleeding women are sharing ONE toilet)....and they've been extremely busy lately (as have the men and women of Casper!!!), so the chances of getting a single room are pretty slim. The docs here are awesome, second to none, but the facility leaves a lot to be desired (my 3rd child was born there).
I also like Riverton Memorial Hospital (they've since been bought out and I'm not sure what their new name is)....my twins were born there....and I received excellent care (but that was over a decade ago).
So, just from having friends all over the state....I've heard that Douglas' hospital has the best rooms....

Yipper-do...and a biker Nanna too! LOL!!!! Getting old is unavoidable. Growing old is!!! LOL!!!
West Park Hospital in Cody as well as Powell Hospital have EXCELLENT L&D departments. I have had 3 grandbabies delivered at Powell Hosp & I worked for 13 yrs at WPH and knew all the dirt everywhere there was any to know there. Have a wonderful pediatrician in Cody too - He's the bomb!!!!
The hospital in Platte county (which shall remain nameless) is where all of my kids were born & of 4, 3 are only alive because of the great OB/GYN there. And that is all I have to say there. And my doc did try to encourage me to sue the hosp after one delivery & he would support me on that. But I'm not the litiginous type - my daughter was fine, although only by the act of God - and that was the one that had the best chance of surviving w/o doc's intervention - because they had not called them when I arrived already w/baby crowning (only 40 min. labor altogether - so the doc was only arriving when she was born on the floor). So...there are some great hosp's here - and some not so great. But many have great hosp's - just a REALLY SERIOUS nursing shortage - that is a large part of the prob.

There is a pass between Sheridan and Buffalo that can close down quite a bit sometimes... it get's a little hairy at the top of the pass near Piney Creek.
But there is a small hospital in Buffalo.
If you do a search there is a link to all the hospitals in the area, I think Elkhunter maybe posted them...
If you can't find it in a search you could try doing a google search for Johnson County Hospital to see what it is like... I know babies are born there... I am not sure what the quality of care is...
