You're making progress. This is probably the most positive thing you've said. Good work.

Wyo2008, if you can wrap your mind around this statement it will change your life. "Happiness come from within." You could be dead tomorrow. Haven't you already wasted enough "negative" time and energy on your "chosen" situation? Change your way of thinking and change your life. Your past/present way of thinking is NOT WORKING. Wyoming & Rawlins IS NOT your problem. Your issues are in the mirror.

lovethewest, Wyo2008 has a plan to leave in Jan I believe it is & just isn't cut out for her. I dout seriously if flaring up is going to solve any issues or problems. Not EVERYBODY is cut out to live here. I probably know MORE ppl who don't live here who can't imagine how we survive w/o a mall in town or being 90 miles from he closest interstate or actual 4-lane highway. Easy! Is just the live I prefer because is how I was raised in a very small town in Ohio! Lived in Littleton CO long enuff to graduate from high school & all I EVER wanted was to move to Wyo, MT, SD or pretty much anywhere north of Colo because I was NOT cut out to live on the "front range". We all have different likes, dislikes, & suits to wear. Wyo2008 has as much right to be pessimistic on here as we have the right to laud Wyo's beauty & gift to the world. I for one get a kick out of his writings - not all praise & nothing better - I get a good laugh! He's leaving as soon as he is able - don't enable him to upset you or your day. If I was forced to spend most of my time in Rawlins, I'm sorry but I would be perhaps al little less than entranced by Wyo as a whole because I kept having to go home to Rawlins! I personally think is an armpit - but is MY opinion. Yet I think Wyo is ONE of the greatest states in the US.

I am a little disappointed at WYO2008. I realize that the area is sparse and does not keep a living standard of NY or LA, but I thought that was what Wyoming was all about. I have no disillutions about a state that is known to be a "cattle raising" and "oil producing" wind whipped grassland. I am not sure what WYO2008 expected when moving there. However, I am open to all opinions so keep them coming.
About the questions as to my training and education...
Well, I was an Army reservist for a few years, now I have been in the Army for over 14 years. I have worked in toooooo many areas to even count. I have a Associates in general education, but working on my BS in Business management (still 9 classes short). I have done everything from Batallion level Postal clerk, LPN in ICU in a CSH and as a dialysis tech (no longer keep my license), IT in satellite communications, supply supervisor at corp levels, training "NCO" (if you know military), operations NCO, S1 and S6 supervisor. Just to name a few.
OH YES..... I do know how to ride a horse.

Askmac, Wyo2008 was sort of stuck here for an internship in his profession & is looking forward to his departure in Jan 09 I believe it is. I think he has a good heart & is just really sick of where he lives now. Yeah, he has found a way to vent & maybe it makes him feel better but not ALL he says is w/o a little merit. Is true that Wyo does not exactly have an abundance of institutions of higher education but then we are a state of only a little over half mil. THANKFULLY several of the surrounding states (including Washington for some degrees) cooperate with us for resident tuitions. So that has been our saving grace in that regard. But our comm. colleges are mostly pretty good. And WyoTech (Wyoming Institute of Technology) goes back & forth with another auto/disiel/rod mechanical school in TX as #1 in the nation. So there are some very good schools here. BUT - to sort of indirectly support his comment about the ed here, this is a good example. My son, who ended graduating from WyoTech & is a top notch diesel mechanic in Cody (well known here) received a full ride academic scholarship at Central Wyo Comm College. HOWEVER - there is not NEAR enuff dorm space for the freshmen!!! He had to live on campus for his 1st year but there was no room. Pretty easy to give away "money" when they don't have to make good on it cause they can't house the scholarship recipients. Was a total screw-over job. So - Wyo2008 isn't a bad guy - just not where he would like to be. Hopefully soon he will be somewhere he really likes &, for one, I am happy he has a light at the end of his very dark tunnel. Maybe give him a break....

Hey Wyo2008
Draw a circle on the ground, now step inside. Change everything inside the circle and you will find happiness. Then try and change everything else you might find it doesn't need changing.

There is no use in acknowledging Wyo2008's responses. I have been around long enough to recognize an unhappy person when I (read) see one. Wyo2008 has found a vent for his/her frustration. It is probably a good thing. I could not imagine the horrible struggle if he/she penned all that anxiety up inside. Regardless that he/she is disgruntled about it; believe it or not it has actually helped me get a better insight into that area.
Wyo2008 I hope you are truly looking into moving elsewhere. Maybe next time you will look into the areas without the delusions of a bigger and better place.
I am actually making plans to visit Wyoming in the end of next week. I am driving out with my kids. We are just driving as the wind blows. We are quite used to this type of “site seeing” so it has great promises. Especially since everyone has given me such great descriptions and advice. THANKS!!!!

I think it's great that you & your kids are "blowing in with the wind"! I can bet that this will be the best way you can experience Wyoming for yourself. I agree that Wyo2008 is an unhappy person and I'm glad you recognize that not everything is all roses for everybody. I, myself, am thrilled to be moving back to Wyoming and the people who I consider to be the friendliest in the world! I hope you enjoy your trip....don't forget to take time to smell those roses!!!

Well, I think some postings on both sides were a bit harsh. I have to say I DO agree with Wyo2008 on some points. A lot of it is that Wyoming is SO different to many people. I profess that the way I was raised I find many Wyoming cultural things to be "rough around the edges" whether that be due to natives or the boom I don't know.
1. I have never lived somewhere where they had to post at the gym, "no spitting in the garbage cans."
2. I have never lived somewhere where it seems to be acceptable to wear filthy cloths to dinner and not take your hat off.
3. I have never lived somewhere where the majority of the residents can't utilize basic grammar - and will argue about it with you.
4. I have never had to enroll my child in a daycare where parents drop their kids off with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths.
5. I have never lived a place where the majority of residents think the "Red Lobster" is the height of fine dining.
6. I have never lived somewhere like this where the machositic behavoir of men toward wives, employees, etc. has been so bad.. and don't get me started on the pay.
7. I have never lived in a place where what my mother would consider "white trash" can afford a nicer house than my husband and I can. - and they ignore convenants.
But the problem is not the culture of Wyoming. It's me. It's my problem. I was raised differently, I was raised by what I suppose would be more educated, liberal, and out here (probably thought of as snobby) background where a priority is placed on the arts, culture, academics, etc. Also, the myth of the west, is just that. A myth. I will agree with Wyo2008 on that.
I do not like, Nascar, snowmobiles, "I'm country" attitudes, ranch dressing, ice berg lettuce, arrogance, cold weather, casual dressing, hunting, motorized recreational vehicles, lack of RSVP'ing, modulars, out of wedlock parenthood, nor do I like beer, men that think it is acceptable to spend more on an Alaskan hunting trip than their child's college fund. prime rib, fast food, Walmart, and the saying "Get 'er done."
That said. The problem is not Wyoming. The problem is totally me. I am in the wrong place for the things I like. However, I DO like the views, horses, and my husband who is a native.
