my last point.. i hope! Wyoming really attracts a certain "cultural type of person" just like NY or the south or other places attract a certain type of person. I'm just not that "type" that fits into Wyoming, luckily I fit in very well in Denver, Dallas, North Carolina, New York, London, Portland, Boston, Charleston, Baton Rouge, Alabama, ie. bigger and middle sized cities and towns.. in fact I ADORE Fort Collins, would move there in a heartbeat!!!! I think it's def. more "my kind of West" or Bozeman.. Bozeman is wonderful.
Mmm. I fit in really well in many, many other places both big and small, both coasts and both north and south... but I don't fit in, in this one particular state. I wonder what that says about me!
mmm.. I think I like it! Actually, I LOVE when people give me this look and say (in Wyoming) you aren't from here are you? I can tell..
ooo I love that!!!

Well, out here we don't have to put on false aires. No need to impress anybody. Haven't seen anybody worth impressing unless it was going to be my next employer, or the rancher that I was going to ask for his daughters hand.
What does it hurt to walk into Wally World with jeans on? That's what we wear. Should we run home and put on our best clothes so we can impress the checker? Sorry, ain't going to happen.
We live, we enjoy, the simple life. Hell, my doctor wears blue jeans and a denom shirt at the hospital that he works at. Doesn't make him less of a doctor. Seems he doens't have anybody to impress either.

Again my responses are in red below in the quotes..

You are entitled to your opinion. I just can't believe for someone with so called morals and "Back East Etiquette" that you have such a narrow-minded sterio-typical view? I thought liberals were for "Diversity" and so called brotherly love... but suit yourself...
Also for being a feminist, wouldn't other feminists consider you weak for not standing up to your husband for forcing you to live here against your wishes? Where is your so called Woman power? Sounds a bit submissive for a person that views Wyoming's men as so Shauvinistic???
However, "money doesn't equal class" so I'm not looking down on people that can't afford certain things. Most of the white trash I've experienced in Wyoming DOES have money. Of course they do, they are making 25$ plus in the cbm field.. it's an attitude and a general culture I'm talking about that is very different than what I'm used to.
I'm sorry but I do find the majority fits into a lot of what I described.
I did have a friend that came to visit, she truly felt that we had been raised in a very middle class lifestyle "back east as you would say," but here we would be um, I guess upperclass? really I dislike all the class talk but I guess I need the vocabulary to describe it.
Being of such privileged so called intelligence from the culture you grew up in, you'd think you would have the intelligence to use vocabulary other than negative terms such as class?
For example, my husband and I had some errands to run on a Sunday morning at.. of all places Walmart, there was no avoiding it - (I detest walmart) anyway, both of us were saying to each other, "Oh we look terrible, I feel like such a slob dressed like this going to walmart."
He had jeans on and a collared golf shirt. I had on nice sweatpants, nikes, and a patagonia fleece jacket. I did have makeup on.. Compared to the other shoppers, we looked like royalty, my husband kept joking, "I feel like I'm dress like Louis 14th compared to this crowd.."
That right there is the elitist mentality I am talking about? You have got to be kidding me, you need to go live somewhere like Beverly Hills. I think it is sad to wake up every day and every time you go to town wonder who and how you can impress people? What if all someone could afford to wear was the clothes you are describing? You see what I mean, you passed judgement on a whole store of people before getting to know them as individuals, or even know their financial status? I mean come on? I know some liberals back in Oregon that treated people better than that even? I mean you are contradicting yourself, saying you don't like to classify people into classes, but you love to go in the store and impress the cashier and let them know by your appearance how high and mighty you are? What makes you royalty?
My mother likes to look at the real estate pages online, she calls me and goes, "I can't believe how people LIVE and decorate out there.. it's so horrid, I mean who puts moose wallpaper in a Victorian? and parks their RV in the front of their house?" and on and on.. and she was raised very modestly. Again, it's just such a different culture.
Seriously what do you care what someone decorates their house with? This is absolutely a snobbish way to think about people and their homes... Everyone has their own taste. Did you ever go to college and take Art History? Art and decoration is subjective, meaning we all have our own interpretation... doesn't make one person's way wrong or right??? again an educated person would not make such a narrow-minded statement?
I was complaining about the neighbors John Deere sculpture of some sort to her and she said, "well what can you expect, that's obviously what people do out there.. no taste whatsovever, but honey, you will move one day anyway!" And it's true. I just have to grit my teeth and enjoy what I can and not try to change too much of it.
Wyoming won't change.. the people won't change. Too stubborn and arrogant to.. and that's not meant as an insult. It is why Wyoming has retained the culture it has (as well as it's low population) and it will chase out what doesn't fit into it..
That is not why the population in Wyoming is low, again an educated person would know it is the climate and many other factors...
It's darwinian selection and I accept that. I'm just venting because I'm stuck here.
and P.S. in case you haven't read.. there is a daycare shortage in WY.. hellooooooo... read your newspaper.
Ps. I read the newspaper, I know about the shortage, but like I said quit whining and do something about it. If you don't like the day care, pay a nanny, find a new one.. you make the decisions in your life not anyone else...

OMG - I canNOT believe "Dictionary"'s comments - is uncanny - I haven't run into that sort of mentality since I GRATEFULLY left Denver in the 1970's. Oh - that's right - she feels COMFORTABLE and fits in in Denver. UGH!!!!! Thank you so much Kristy for being SO bold & speaking intelligently and pointing out the contradictions and total attitude problem here. I AM glad she said this is her last post here - I'm hoping it is on the Wyo forum period. IMHO her posts no longer are deserving of replies. I mean - just her user name, "Dictionary" - what does that tell you?????? Thinks VERY highly of herself right off the bat just by registering with the forum. So. Adios Dictionary. You really need therapy - perhaps a great Dallas, Denver, NYC, San Fran, Phoenix, Paris, Chicago, St. Louis, Rio de Janero, Cairo Egypt, London, Paris, Moscow or what other places you may have mentioned where you fit in and see a VERY EXPERIENCED therapist who specializes in narcissism.

I appreciate the points and opinions and I don't take offense, I don't mean to offend anyone either. Again, we are each entitled to our opinons. And I did say I DO appreciate the views, the safety, the horse atmosphere, and the fact beer and and good mixed drinks are much cheaper in Wyoming..
ok I'll shut up now!

whooops, did forget to add, I actually majored in Art History, and actually it's not subjective, aesthetics are based on complex philosophies and art criticism. May I suggest Rudolph Arnheim on aesthetic guidelines, great book actually. ok. no more arguements. each to his own.

Actually, to criticize means "to find fault with", so art criticism as a guide to aesthetics makes it...subjective. And I also think this thread has turned into a pis*ing contest. Opinions are great, egos are not.

Tiki Girl,
I think you should start a new post about your move, etc. and put this one and Madam Dictionary to rest for good! She says she is finished, but then pops up another post....then she says she'll shut up....then pops up yet another post! Maybe we should start a thread titled "NO DICTIONARIES ALLOWED"! LOL It would be only about POSITIVE things Too bad we can't pick & choose who we have to deal with in life....but that's life for ya! Maybe our positive outlooks will influence someone and perhaps make them think about making some changes in themselves. I don't think even therapists can help some people, they have to want to HELP THEMSELVES and like good 'ol Dr. Phil says, "you can't change what you don't acknowledge"! I think Dictionary doesn't have a clue as far as what kind of person she really is. There's my 2 cents worth....
