I agree $430 k will get you a decent place in Johnson and Sheridan County...
It is homes under 200 k that are hard to find...

Where you decide on might depend on the type of landscape you like. Wyoming is very diverse, as is Montana, as you know! I've been in Billings for 13 years and am looking into moving back to my home state of Wyoming soon. I was born & raised in the Big Horn Basin (in Basin). It is very laid back and you could easily be self sufficient and you could get what would be considered a MANSION for Basin or a ton of land for the amount of money you have available. You'll find that it is one of the least expensive areas in the state....but there isn't much there.....it is prairie land for the most part. But the river is there so if you could get ahold of some riverfront property it would be great. Again, where you end up will depend on what you want for landscape and scenery and what you actually want to get for your money. Best of luck!

Losertarian, Search for "wyodex" and look under real estate . They have most of the realtors listed by area. Take a look at Crook county too there are some nice ranches over there for sale.

I don't know what might be for sale, but staying close to the Big Horns yet purchasing a lot of land for less - you might consider the Manderson area - south of Basin at the turn-off to head to Ten Sleep - up the Nowood. GREAT dove hunting there....

I am leaning towards living in Big Horn and Crook counties atm, but am open to other suggestions.
My family and I tend to be more self reliant and prefer to have neighbors that like to be the same way.

Fremont County is nice as well.....not much here in Natrona County (Casper area) as far as land is concerned (all the riverfront properties are taken.....and the rest is sagebrush and dust). I've lived in almost every Fremont County town and it's a great area.

I agree - Fremont is green, ag, & surrounded by mountains. I like it down there.

I live in Iowa right now, and work for a Plasma Center. I am looking to transfer to Wyoming. The centers are located in Casper, Cheyenne and Laramie. I was wondering which would be the best to move to. I don't need to move to the specific town, but a neighboring one would work. I pay a lot of money for where I live, and I was just wondering what the cost of living is there. If anyone could help, that would be great!

Same story as SO many other threads here. There are no straight forward answers to your questions as far as cost of lving, etc. And there are not many towns close by to any others. My choice of the 3 you mentioned would be Laramie because is beautiful, a university town, near mountains, and close to Ft. Collins - another college town in Colo., but then it is fairly high in elevation for it's size & can have pretty harsh winters. But so can the other 2 "cities" you mention. I personally am not fond of Casper - just not my kind of town. And Cheyenne isn't a lot better IMHO - but I'm a small town gal. Laramie has more of that "small town" feel of the 3. Casper & Cheyenne are growing WAY too fast for me to handle. So, browse the strings - there is a lot of info on here already about things such as you are asking. Anything we could tell you would be repetitive from something posted in the last couple days on another "moving to Wyo" string.

Is Wyoming 2nd Ammendment Friendly?
I live in Virginia and have been thinking about a big change in location and have considered Wyoming. I was wondering if in rural areas, would the sound of target shooting alarm any neighbors close enough to hear it or is the attitude on these matters somewhat relaxed there?
