Michian CCW traveling to Wyoming, Help!!
I have my Michigan CCW and I will be vacationing in Wyoming for the summer and maybe staying longer. I understand that while traveling across country I can carry concelled as long as i am traveling through to a destination. My question is, once I am in Wyoming, should I , or do I go to the local sherriff to let him know i will be carrying? thanks alot

You don't have to stop and tell anybody, anything. Wyoming Recognizes Michigan's CCW as valid in Wyoming.
If your going to be here more then 6 months, then you'll need to get a Wyoming CCW after the first 6 months.
One thing I would caution you on though, research the Wyoming laws. Particularly where you can carry and where you can't. Because they might be different then Michigan.

thanks for the quick response :} .. One other question is about Wyoming's open carry laws. Here in MI , i have been told that the state police and local police really frown about any type of open carry, even though we are suppose to be an open carry state. Wyoming is a gold star state as far as open carry is concerned, corrrect? Can anyone tell me about how the law officers in Wy view people exersizing their right to open carry? thanks again

I'm not sure. Never seen anybody open carry in town. But out fishing or hiking a lot of people do and they are not hassled.

Oh lordy - it's the out of staters who freak out. The cops could care less. When we go hunting & are gassing up or getting snacks to take with us in the grocery etc & are wearing a sideiron, nobody even bats an eye except for those who are not used to being in Wyo - or the treehuggers. If you get pulled over just have your CCW out & ready to present & let them know you are carrying. I've been pulled over a couple of times (I don't have a CCW) & just told them I had a loaded .357 in the truck with me & I just get "ok" & no glance - same in Montana. Maybe because am mid-aged woman usually travelig alone, but no biggie at all. You don't have to register, declare anything to anybody. Just can't take on a public school campus (or probably a private campus - which in Wyo I don't think there is any other except maybe WyoTech), places that sell/serve alcohol, banks, fed/state & probably city/county bldgs, and that's about it. Some guys from Mich whom my son met out shooting the other day were shocked to see him show up with about 6-8 pistols in his truck to shoot, traveling w/all at one time. The guys from Mich said that they are only allowed to carry one at a time in their vehicle???????? No such law here - you can have a freeking arsenal in your vehicle with you as long as you can see it all or have CCW. That surprised me - but then it is just one more example of how ppl have allowed their rights to be tightened around their necks. just the question on another thread if they had to register their firearms made me want to spit nails. Is more infringement. No prob here...

That's dangerous thinking WyoMama.
What does the Law say. As in Wyoming Statute? The fact that you do it, and nobody is alarmed, doesn't mean it's legal. State law could say one thing, but Country or City Ordinances could state something more strict.
It's best to check the Laws by calling the Sheriff's office in the town your going to be residing in and find out. Don't go by, "Well we do it here and nobody says anything."

it kind of depends on where you are....and who you are....
my father carried on his hip EVERYWHERE he went around town (this was in Dubois, a small town of 1000 people)....but was more discreet in some of the larger towns.
I don't think the officers really mind as long as you aren't reaching for your weapon when they see you.....if you get pulled over, immediately tell them the situation "hey, I'm from MI, I have a CCW, my pistol is in my XXXXX"....don't try to hide it...
'
Keep in mind it's illegal to have a weapon in a state park....Yellowstone, for example (I believe they're tryingn to change that, but I could be wrong....I've been wrong once or twice before)....
However, when it comes to concealed carry.....that's the point....don't let anyone know you're carrying (cannot carry in schools, post offices, banks, etc)...but you're probably already aware of that.
Have fun and enjoy your trip to Wyoming!

Yes, there is currently a bill before congress to remove the restrictions of carry in the park. So far it's getting favorable reviews from a lot of legislatures.
It is kind of tricky because it can be taken care of by the folks that run all the national parks. However, congress wants to make it really official and pass a bill on it. That way it would cover both National and State parks.
I expect we'll have an answer, this month. It's that close to fruition.
Like I mentioned. A Michigan CCW is honored by Wyoming. In the state of Wyoming, if you get pulled over, there is no requirement to tell the officer that you are carrying. Some states have that reg, but Wyoming does not. But, if you are asked, don't lie, tell them the truth. But there is no reason to volunteer that info.

Our best friend was a city cop here & now works for Wyo DCI (still lives in Cody) & his brother is sheriff of Park Cty - Scott Steward. There is no law against that in any town in Park county & is not uncommon to see during hunting season.
Guess I am a little confused about what is the dangerous thinking - generally speaking you don't wear it when you go to WalMart & I probably wouldn't wear it round INSIDE stores in someplace like Casper because not positive of the laws. But is fine in Park, Platte, Goshen, Hot Springs, Washakie, Big Horn, & I believe Fremont counties. Fremont is questionable because so much is on res. But not a prob anywhere else in THIS area - or hasn't been in the past - including his past autumn. We stay on top of these things AND are advised QUICKLY by our friend Darrell of any gun law changes because he gets really hot about that. I you are carrying in full view w/o a CCW that is our right. Yes - of course discretion is definitely preferred. Carrying it just to look like a bad-a$$ is just stupid. But I ALWAYS have my .357 with me (I am physicially unable to fight to get away from a prob or to run due to physical disabilities) and I've been pulled over before w/the gun in it's case right next to me on the state & the most that has ever happened is the flashlight flashes over it but they don't ask for me to leave the vehicle or anything else. I've taken it across country & don't hide it - in it's case, which is actually concealed, and I KNOW one trooper at a rest area in I think it was Iowa (or Illinois - forget now) saw it and never said a word. A city policeman in WV saw it & asked what it was & I told him & he wanted to see it just to look at it. It was loaded & I unloaded it before I handed it to him right in front of him. He had no trouble with my handling it right there. Maybe if you don't look like "the type" that might use it you are a little safer (there ARE advantages to getting a little older....and being a woman). So of course discretion is necessary but I'll be danged if I will lie or otherwise leave it behind when I go on a road trip of any sort. In Wyo I have NEVER been questioned about it once by deputies / troopers who have checked to see if I am OK when I am resting, being pulled over a couple times, hitting a deer once, etc. No, you don't have to disclose you are carrying if you have CCW - but that is the discretion unspoken when I said to have your CCW handy & ready to disclose. Cops do NOT like surprises.

Now, your making some sense. But before, you were answering for the STATE of Wyoming, not just Park County.
I would rather sight the law then say, "Well, the local yokals don't care so I guess there is no law against it."
