Scott-

Our family used to live in Worland a few years ago. It doesn't change much. As far as the farming aspect I'll leave that info to those who know about it.

As far as the town, not much there to write home about. There's not a lot to offer in town for necessities. Plus it can be expensive. You have to drive the 90 miles to Riverton or about 150 to Cody for a Walmart or KMart amongst other stores. They make this small town look much better in movies, if you know what I mean. During the winter months you cannot go to Riverton because the pass freezes over and sometimes Cody is not accessible due to weather. During heavy snows many of the passes are closed.

We have always liked Cody and Sheridan much better. Though more expensive and more snow, as someone mentioned, I think it's worth it. I wish we'd gone there instead. They are both large enough to make functioning and living easier. There's a lot of growth which offers a lot of opportunities if farming doesn't work out. It depends on what you are really looking for.

We'd suggest taking time to check out all the towns thoroughly before making a decision.

Worland and Thermopolis are suffering from Meth and drug problems. As many towns are anymore. It's a wide spread problem now. Make sure to read their newspapers. Be careful of identity theft and prescription drug theft those are also on the rise.

People:

We met some really nice and helpful folks there. People we would call 'friends' in a heartbeat. People who deserve that 'hug' for being kind and helpful. (more of these than 'bad'). They were always willing to help you when you need and even when you don't.

We also met some 'not nice' people who hurt friends of ours. Their actions were childish and horrible. They went out of their way to hurt our friends and others. They are pathetic. This only soured our experience in Worland, WY. It is part of the reason we moved. We kept our friendships but decided to live some place else.

Good Luck to you and your family! I hope you find a place you can make a good home! Just remember, it's not all 'peaches and cream' like in the movies.

Scott,

Forgot to mention SCHOOLS. They are having a drug problem at the high school, which is probably leaking into Jr. High too. My kids came home with a lot of stories.

But there is a sense of 'community' with the school and the town. Football games and such are a blast. They offer a lot of programs for kids to get good scholarships for college, etc.

Best of Luck!

Something else just came to mind...Worland...Stinks! When they start burning at the plant...it Stinks! So make sure you aren't near the plants.

Someone mentioned Hyattville. Never went there but heard it's nice.
