Default University of Wyoming

Hey, I am a student in high school looking at colleges and the University of Wyoming interests me. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the engineering program (good or bad)? What is laramie like? Climate? Snowfall? Nice people? etc. Also are there places in town to jog or trails nearby? Thank you for all your information.

Also, I forgot to add What is the campus like? Are there lots of trees? Hilly? Does laramie have big name chain companies? For instance, walmart, target, mcdonalds etc? Thank you.

Check out the UW website. That will answer some of your questions. Also look at City-Data for climate, etc. Laramie does have Walmart, Kmart that's about it as far as chain big box stores. Cheyenne and Fort Collins aren't far though.

It gets very cold in Laramie in the winter, windy too. Beautiful though. Mountains are there with lots of outdoor activities. Our daughter is a student there and loves it. Campus is gorgeous with lots of trees. We are going over on Sunday to ski.

I don't know much about the engineering program but if you call the university they can fill you in.

When we lived there I was a hairdresser and I think every other student that sat in my chair was an engineering student and it was known that they do have an excellent engineering program. I don't know where you're coming from but be aware that Laramie is one of the most windy places in the state. Also winter lasts the entire school year. Seriously. It's a good idea to live within walking distance of campus or have a 4 wheel drive since Laramie does not plow side streets, at all. My husband just went through yesterday and there's 2 feet of snow in the parks and the streets are a mess, of course. Laramie is a great place I'm not dogging it, you should just be aware of the weather. We moved when it snowed a foot in July and was 30 degrees for a week, in 1998. That was just too much for me ) There is a super walmart and other known fast food joints. Make sure you check out El Conquistador downtown on Ivinson if you visit, best mexican food anywhere I promise you won't be sorry. It's only about 45 minutes if the roads are clear to Cheyenne and they have tons of shopping, you can also take 287 down to Ft. Collins Colorado it's about an 1 1/2 drive, but be careful and watch the other traffic. It's a beautiful drive (make sure you honk three times when coming and going when you pass the white church just into Colorado a ways, locals superstition you can never be too safe on 287) you just have to watch everyone else they will pass on hills and curves where they can't see you coming. And no I'm not that superstitous but I did it every day when I was working in Ft. Collins and living out by Tie Siding, it's better to be safe...
