Don't remember the powder or grain of bullet, but hubby loded them for .357 & a .41. Are just really hot loads but not so hot as to destroy the action. I never had an archery license so when I went w/him bow-hunting I would carry the gun as he was not allowed. We actually gave up an elk to a grizz once. You can take a shot in the ear or zip it past his ear, but 1 of 2 things will happen - will run or will **** HIM OFF & you are dead meat. Esp back where we hunted deep in wilderness in Bear Springs area (sort of at base of Trout Peak) uphill from Sunlight Basin (Chief Joseph Scenic Byway goes through there.) I NEVER go to the mtns (or anywhere really) w/o my .357. I don't like surprises & I am not physically able to run or even walk fast since I use a cane most of the time!!

There have been too many sightings of "something" to think everyone is mistaken about what they think they saw. Several people have seen a creature in Arkansas about like what you describe.

You know, another thing I have thought of about "monsterquest" sightings...many of these sightings are in areas where they can hide easily & could some of them be actually terribly disfigured humans with giantism? Just a thought tossing out there...but I have a hard time thinking that reg. ol' Amerians are the only beings (besides other mammels) living in the forests & mountains.

I hope I never have to face a grizz with nothing but a .357. Probably do just as good with a fly swatter and a can of pepper spray.
I have pictures of a guy that put 6 out of 6 into a grizz with his pistol. Not pretty. The guy was laying there with his empty pistol and his leg and most of his torso missing.
I too pack a pistol when I'm out in the mountains. However, mine is a 500 S&W.

If I had my choice of a "Grizz gun" I would carry a .450 Marlin Guide Gun .450 Marlin Here is a link if you are curious to see what it looks like...
or a 44 Mag Pistol... I have read stories though of expert hunters that carried one of each of those, and still couldn't pull them out fast enough before they got charged and pounced on... I guess it all depends on the circumstances of the bear encounter though..
I just hope I never have an encounter haha

So what did it look like Elkhunter? I am so curious. It seems smart that it turned around to look at you.
I saw something wierd up in the sky once. So I know what you mean. When we lived in the Azores, Portugal, on-base toward the end of our 3 year stay. A bunch of us were outside and someone happened to look up. Way off in the distance we saw a round white thing. The strange part about it (I mean we've all been around planes all our lives, Air Force kids) is that it stopped. And went the other direction. Didn't do a u-turn or anything. Just stopped. And backtracked. Then lost in cloud cover.)
I also remember my parents talking with a family friend once (Air Force pilot) who talked about seeing something with his co-pilot and they never reported it. I was just listening in on the conversation while they talked. Never forgot that.
A few years ago I read an astronaut book (autobiography) and he mentioned strange things like that around air force bases. So I thought that was interesting from what I remembered growing up.
Once you've seen something strange yourself... it's just different. I think there's tons more out there than what we've discovered so far.

This is a great thought! And think of how that person would be ostracized! It would be way easier for them to try and live undetected in remote areas, than to "blend" into our unforgiving society, where much worth is placed upon beauty and perfection. If I could give you two points on this one, I would!

My brother, who is an avid hiker, who goes off trail most of the time, in search for elk, came upon an elk shed w/skull attached. He noticed something unusual on the skull. Like it had been punched right by the nose and mouth part. He couldn't figure out what could have done this to the elk, there were no rocks or boulders around, in case the elk had fallen. I have read that elk are the favorite meat for Bigfoot. So it makes me wonder if a Bigfoot did cause this to the elk? I like to think it is possible.

My packing gun. IF I am not hunting big game with a rifle. Is a Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 magnum. With 300 grain jacketed hollow points,8.3 grains unique powder,CCI large magnum pistol primers, no special case though.
I have used this under perfect conditions to take mule deer, antelope. Worked real well on both. Not a bad recoil at all.
I have practiced with this and think/hope it will do. I'd like to try a bigger gun. But Clint Eastwood made it look so cool..........

I went out to a buddy's place. He had two 44 mags. I think both would do a fair job on a grizz. One was hydroported for recoil. The standard 44 he had was punishing if you were going to target practice and shoot all afternoon. The one that was ported was pretty smooth. But my 500 S&W is ported and actually shot smoother then his ported 44mag. Of so that was the consensas of the 4 of us shooting. My 500 shoots a 440 grain bullet. 5 rounds. If that won't do it, throw the gun at him and run.
