Default Living in Yellowstone area (not seasonally!)?

Can anyone provide me any insight to living in Yellowstone (or in the area) year round? I am looking at a job in the park - permanent civilian gov't position - and I have a seven year old daughter. Elkhunter, feel free to chime in here, if you have any info I might find helpful! SD is not providing any positive feedback for me jobwise just yet, so I am branching out!

You might investigate the Cody area. Take a look at the forestry department or the Game and Fish. Yellowstone is nice, but the beauty doesn't stop at the fence.

If you plan to live IN the park would be in Mammoth Hot Springs. There is year-round living there. The 2 closest towns to the park are West Yellowstone & Gardiner, MT. The west entrance & the north entrance respectively. But there is year-round housing in Mammoth. If you are gong to be a Park Ranger I believe there are other areas of year-round housing as well & you just get around by snow-mobile. Does this help? You can get into the Park from Cody - at least for now - by snow-mobile HOWEVER you have to have a guide. If you work for the Dept. of Interior they may waive that requirement but is 53 miles to the east gate from Cody - a long commute...

Gardiner, MT is a nice small town, i'm not sure on housing prices but we have though a few times about looking at moving to there. Seems to be older houses for the most part, and i'm not sure what rent would run.

If you want shopping, Gardiner is NOT the place for you...there is NOTHING inside to do there. To live in Y'stone during the winter means not shopping pretty much PERIOD. We do need more info to try to help.

My family lived just outside the south gate for a couple of years when I was younger. In the winter we were snowed in. Had to use snowmobiles to get in and out. Mom and us younger kids spent the winters in Jackson for school. Used lots of firewood in the heat stoves. Wore long johns and snowsuits a lot.
