Wyomama -- Sheridan Hospital is larger than Cody -- we are 88 bed where I think Cody is about 30, not that we ever have 88 beds used. Right now we are in a doctor shortage. Having a couple leaving and not any new ones coming in.

That could be. All I know is that I was very thankful that we went woppa woppa woppa off to get help.

jkb826, actually WH was just over 55 not including the LTCC or Cedar Mtn Center (substance abuse) when I quit there in 2001, but they have put in a new women's health department in there that added a few beds but must be a bit smaller yet from Sheridan. But it is pretty good sized for the catchment area.
Casper has life-flight (a friend of mine is a flight nurse in Casper - only way I knew that). Cheyenne didn't used to, but they may now. With Denver so close it would surprise me if they did. Any lifeflight svc in northwest Wyo comes from Billings. Northeast I THINK comes from Rapid City unless they need the services available in Billings. Legally, it depends upon which hospital is the closest which can provide the services needed for that patient. I'm not really familiar with what services are avail in RC.
HEY ALL - is anybody else having trouble seeing all posts on threads??? I'm getting sometimes 1 post on a page that has multiple pages of posts - like this one. I could get the original post on page 1 & the one from elkhunter on this page...but nothing else in between. Just wondering......PM me (and ElkHunter) cause I don't think I'll see any responses to that question on the forum if you tell me here. Is VERY weird.......

Is it possible you clicked on "view the newest" posts somehow?
Not sure how else that could happen. I know at times since the new upgrade of City-Data there are temporary glitches or posts time out for a few minutes and don't load and then start working again..
Hope that may help? Wyomama

2. Lake Guernsey and other nearby sites should satisfy your fishing needs.

In reality - Guernsey Res is about 40 miles west, isn't it? I lived in Wheatland in the 1980's & was about 60 miles to Torrington & it was about 25 miles to Guernsey Res on the way (we used to go there ALL the time when we lived there). Wheatland is anoher really nice town - are several lakes nearby - within 15 miles - 3-4 within 4-5 miles of town. Is clean & friendy & an hour north of Cheyenne & only about 25 minues into the mountains. And about 170 miles to northern Denver, 110 miles to Ft. Collins. A lot to do not far away. I really liked it there. There is a hospital there too - Platte Cty Memorial & about 55 miles north has another hospital. Both are pretty small hospitals, like Torrington, but not likely to get closed down because they serve such HUGE catchment areas. And like I said, Wyo is desperate for nurses. Are starting to allow CNAs to extend their licensed capabilities.

The sign on the edge of Torrington says Guernsey is 30 miles. Grayrocks Reservoir is close to Wheatland, but this year it is in really bad shape. We went out for the 4th and left - they are letting the cattle "graze" on the banks and there are cowpies (fresh!) everywhere. When you get out of your vehicle, it actualy smells like a feedlot. In past years, it has been a really nice reservoir. Disappointing. . . . .
Guernsey Reservoir is VERY nice - keep in mind they drain it completely after the 4th, but it fills up again near the end of July for more recreation.

Guess I should clarify...thanks ElkHunter.
Sheridan has flights but through the Billings' hospital's life flight, Sheridan does not own it's own chopper.
Casper's flight service is based here (atop WMC) and goes to the rest of the state to pick up their patient's and bring them here....with the exception of Cheyenne (where the Denver life flight usually brings them to Denver).....or Jackson Hole usually goes over to Idaho Falls...Sheridan usually, but not always, goes to Billings.....We have two choppers and a fixed wing.
We average about 3-4 flights per day from Rawlins/Rock Springs/Lander/Riverton/Cody/Worland/Gillette/Buffalo/Sheridan/Lusk/Newcastle....among others.
Usually, people like to stay in their home state rather than travel out of state (not always)....and if our pediatric cases are really bad, they go usually go to Denver (just because they do kids all the time, we only do them occassionally).
Don't get me wrong, the smaller hospitals are great (and have their appeal)....but sometimes out-of-staters are wanting "something more" (not always). For example, an ICU nurse in say, Worland, will only occassionally have an intubated patient, and never one that is severely unstable (they get shipped to Casper). On the other hand, an ICU nurse in Casper, daily, has very very very sick patients. We deal with Swan-Ganz catheters, IABP's, A-lines and the such every day....some other ICU's will see them once in their lifetime.....not that it makes Casper better, just that most ICU nurses here have more experience with much sicker patients (some of us crazy Type-A people enjoy the craziness). Just like we send really sick kids to Denver.....they just have more experience working with really sick kids.
