Default Ski ?s

We've been to Steamboat Springs the last 4 years to ski in december. What's it like in/around Casper. We'll be moving there in a few months. Also, can you reccommend some nice neighborhood in 180k - 220k range. No kids so schools arn't an issue. We're moving from Corpus Christi, TX, way south and way hot!!! Any info you can give on Casper would be greatly appreciated!

There is a small ski hill just outside on Casper Mountain, Hogadon. If Antelope Butte is still open thats probably the next closest.

Jackson is about 280 miles. I know this as I dated a teacher for a few years who taught at the Roosevelt School. In the winter that was a lonely desolete drive for a weekend. Steamboat is probably closer.

Yes, Hogadon is the ski area in Casper. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from town to the south.

While it's certainly not a "big" ski resort it is very handy being so close to town. The vertical drop is only about 600 feet and there are 15 runs.

There was a time in my life that I was a diehard skier and traveled this region to try many areas out. Ironically, that's no more due to "life," but I have been to Hogadon a few times. It wasn't too bad I'd say, especially for the money compared to some of the bigger places like in Jackson and in Colorado.

Wyoming has 6 ski areas that I know of---one here in Casper, one outside of Centennial, WY, one near Pinedale (I think), and three in Jackson.

Here's some info on Hogadon provided by the city's website:

There are a lot of newer housing going in right now (in areas that I would NEVER build on) so be aware!

The older portions of town are great....the "Big Tree District" downtown has some wonderful old houses in great neighborhood. The area off of Poplar Street (Sunrise area...there are several) is a great neighborhood and there are a TON of houses for sale....

Be very aware of the newer built houses....they were put up in a hurry....they are usually $250K-$500K and are built like crap....my brother-in-law bought one five years ago and he's already replaced an entire bathroom....had to replace everything in his basement r/t pipes bursting and flooding his basement.....and now is replacing his kitchen (and finding wiring AND plumbing problems)....and he paid $400K for his house. They're beautiful, don't get me wrong, just shoddily put together.

And be aware of some of the realtors.....not all of them are "good"......

No matter where you buy, you'll be around a school of some type....they are all over town!

Definitely do your homework before you buy....

Good luck and welcome to Wyoming!
