Hello, Need some good info about Gillette Wyoming we may be moving there real soon! depending on the offer we get from the job. I have been reading some of the posts about the cold weather there, was woundering how cold is cold? what is spring and summers like? and most important of all how are the schools? We have 2 kids of junior high and high school, what about the hospitals and doctors? Do they have a good SPCA program there?
We are use to the cold winters, how ever not familiar with how cold it gets there! We are coming from Verdi/Reno Nevada and have lived in a camp trailer this last winter "NOT FUN" the power keeped going out and it got very cold. as low as 9 degrees or lower.
Thank You

The temperatures are similar here in Sheridan, it can get to zero and even below zero, same with Gillette. We are in the banana belt in the Sheridan, Gillette areas.
I think the average temp in the winter months are in the 30's & 40's. Teens aren't uncommon.
But our cold is a dry cold so as long as you wear layers it is really not hard to tolerate.
It is open country out here so the snow can blow in outlying areas. Not too bad in town, they keep things plowed pretty good.
The interstate does get closed sometimes, but usually for not very long.
School system is excellent.
As far as I know the hospital is pretty good over there. Similar to Sheridan's. I am not as familiar with theirs though as much as the one in Sheridan.
Rentals are kind of hard to find right now cause Gillette is a boom town. Things are softening in the housing market. But hasn't affected the rentals but slightly so far...
Best of luck to you.. There are quite a few members that live in that area that will be able to help you more..

Hi Kristynwy, I have no idea what I am doing when blogging. This would be my first time, so I hope you get this msg.
Thank you for your 411, we should be use to the cold weather. Is there a program there that you might know of for animal control?
If this job offer pulls threw for us, I will be nervous about the move! but at the same time glad to get out of Nevada!
Thanks

haha don't worry you will get the hang of posting on the forum. We actually have a blog feature in addition to the posting in the forum feature haha.. a lot to learn but it will be easy once you learn it all I still learn new things every day on here hahaha...
I was nervous on my move too, but turns out I had not too much to be nervous about. The rental situation can be scary, but hopefully as time goes on things will get better...
Hmm I am not sure about animal control in Gillette and/or Sheridan. Elkhunter may know more about that than myself.
When and if things pull through I hope you have a smooth sailing move to Wyo

What, in particular, were you wanting to know about animal control?

Yes, the animal shelter has a program but I'm not sure what it costs.

I am also in the process of moving to Gillette. You may want to look back through the Search option here to see posts about Gillette. I asked a lot of questions as we were determining whether to move. We'll be there by the end of the month. Maybe you can contact me and we can become friends! I'm looking forward to meeting new people. I'm going to be teaching there. Best wishes!

Thank You very much for getting back with me on that!
We still have not herd back on the job offer! but at least my husband got one faster than where we are know!!! We have never had a problem with getting employement like this before, we also have learned that if you do not know someone or related to someone here, its impossible to get into the mines. We have tried know for 3 months, My husband is highly qualified for the jobs but they rather hire these in experienced
high school graduates! "getting quite fustrating" when we have 2 kids to feed and bills to pay! Thats why we are looking to relocate!!!
Thanks
