Life in Wamsutter?
I have been reading this forum since April. (Checking it periodically for information about Wamsutter.)
I have specific questions that I will greatly appreciate the answers to. The first being about the schools. I have noticed that they have no high school. I have also read where there is times when you can not get out of Wamsutter. How and where do the high school aged children go to school? Next, Is there any housing available? What type of housing and who do you contact?
Last but most definitely not least......water!?! I have been told it literally "stinks". How bad is it? Is there anything you can do about it or is it just the way it is?
I will be extremely grateful for any and all information!!

I am not familiar with the area, but there may be a few people that are on the forum.
You may have already done a search, but if not there are some posts about Wamsutter.
Best of luck to you

something like 95% of the houses in wamsutter are trailers.most people with families who work in the area make the long commute from either rawlins or rocksprings[neither of which are considered by most to be the 'garden of eden 'either].there are only about 60 students combined attending the k-8 school.i am sure if i moved there with my wife i would end up divorced or moving back out in a very short time frame.i personally wouldnt live there with a family even if someone gave me a trailer but thats up to you,[and im one of those weird people who actually likes rock springs].water in many parts of wyoming is highly mineralized, turns your clothes brown in the wash, smells bad,and often doesnt taste real good either.im not sure how bad wamsutters is compared to some other towns but i would imagine given its geography it likely isnt real tasty.if you google 'wamsutter' you can link to a 2 year old article from the' high country news'which has a lot of info.if i was going to work there i would spend the gas and commute from baggs to the south which is also small but a pretty nice little town[though housing is limited there too]

Thank you so much for your responses!!
I guess it is just not meant to be!!
My husband actually works there now and he refuses to move us up there. I was hoping to hear something positive about the area to help me plead my case!! haha!!
Does anyone have any info on the Baggs area? I actually tried to research that area also. Are there any motels? I couldn't find any.
With the weather as bad as it sounds, how are people able to commute? I have read where they sometimes shut down the interstate.
Thanks again for all your help!!

I think your husband is right about not moving a wife and teen age children to Wamsutter. My husband worked in the Wamsutter area and drove from Rawlins - two weeks on and then two weeks off so he wasn't on the road everyday. There are times the interstate is shut down. I don't stay for winter.

If I remember right. North of Baggs is a turnoff on the left. I think it called Dad Road or something close. It goes north into Wamsutter from the south. I think if you took it make sure of the road and the correct turns to make it up there. We worked on rigs down around Baggs in the late 1970's. We'd all drive that road like the Indy 500 as did most oilfield trash back then. You'd shave miles off the trip and have fun. Course we did roll some vehicles, uh, due to conditions of the road of course. We'd carry ropes and tow chains. Just flip the cars back up, see if it would start. And go!

My husband is 2wks on/ 2wks off also. My children and I are in Texas and it just seems like it is getting harder to get adjusted to him being gone instead of easier! When I started researching the area and realized there are children there, I guess I just thought it couldn't be that bad.
Thank you again!
