Does this school have a special program that you are interested in, or do you have family in the area? It is not on the top 100 destinations to send my kids. Rents are high, and it is not an easy town to be 'stuck' in.
As far as state information, you will get a lot of info from reading the posts here. Be advised that is varies A LOT ! Most of it is high plains, few trees, lots of barren, rocky openspace. It is a long ways to the nicer areas from Rock Springs, and not easy to 'catch a bus' to most. i.e. you'll be driving long distances.
Bring long underwear! and a warm hat and scarf. + heavy duty shoes. Flip -flops not much good, beach gear can stay in FL. Tho if you find some friends with boats, the Flaming Gorge is within reach, so bring swimwear. Leave the umbrella, it would be dangerous in WY. You'd be waving to Dorothy when you flew over Kansas at about 40,000ft (enroute to the 'far-east')

perhaps you should come visit before you commit.most dont find rocksprings to be particularly beautiful[but some do].it will definately be a change from florida.its prettymuch a blue collar energy/mining town.most people live there for the money, but some like it a lot.i would at least visit first to see if it appeals to you.

I'm dying to know why you would pick Rock Springs. I live here, we're builders, that's the only reason we're here. More info would help me to determine if you're just needing a huge change or are out of your mind. Just kidding but I would really like to hear more about why you chose this place.

Howdy, LadyScorpian14.
Rock Springs is a rather hard area to live in, not only because it is between both city and country lifestyles, but also, because of the high mountain desert that it is located in. The local saying is, "If you don't like the weather, wait another 10 minutes", a tribute to not only the rapidly changing weather, but also to the extremes we can reach. Having given the negative areas their due, there are a plethora of local freedoms that can be accessed, large city life is less than 3 hours away, and the college here, is outstanding at preparing young minds for the challenges of university life, with a very low ratio of students to faculty. Beach, waves, and a "hang loose" attitude, it is not, but we have some of the nicest people willing to help, I have found in almost any area.
