Anyone expecting to move to Wyoming & continue living the 'fast-paced/busy-lifestyle' (or 're-educating' the already well-established population into doing the same) would be well-advised to reconsider.

Where you come from, how deep your pockets are, or even 'who you WERE' back in the ('real' ?) world matters very little, once you're here.

You either submit to the way things are and LIKE it...or Wyoming will simply 'absorb' everything you have to throw at it.

In a very real way, she's just like quicksand; the harder your struggle and the more desperate your attempts to manipulate & change your surroundings & environment here, the faster you run out of energy & will to survive...and you WILL sink.

I think that sums it up pretty well, actually.

Update: I'd barely posted the above when I read in the paper last week that the flight to SLC is being discontinued and a third r/t flight to Denver is being added. The airline to Salt Lake wanted more guarantees, while the the third flight to/from Denver required none. Money talks, especially these days when there's not enough in the local coffers. The plan, although not written in stone at this point, is to have morning, afternoon and evening flights to/from Denver.

I lived in /Lander for a couple years and it was fun for the first year. I felt like we experienced everything there was to do in the area withing the first year and the second year the isolation got to me big time. Lander is a good place with good people for sure. If you don't mind being ultra-isolated then Lander would be on the short list for retirement spots in Wyoming. Nice weather, beautiful views, outdoor paradise in the summer (sucks there's no skiing close), some nice little shops downtown, casinos if you're into that, diverse as far as Wyoming goes. Winters were brutal because there was not much of anything to do. That isolation, though. So far to anything! Too bad Lander isn't a little closer to a big city.

By the way I freaking love Thermop. The hot springs are so cool. Love star plunge. Love tubing, floating and fishing the Big Horn and the Wind in the canyon. Love Boysen. Beautiful area of the state. Fun fact: Thermop has the highest average annual temperature in Wyoming - that's got to appeal to some. Very isolated, tough, as others have mentioned in this thread.

Actually the highest avg annual temp would appear to be Worland, from what I've been told. Definately the hottest place to be during summer months...the heat just settles in and SITS there, until at least October...or so it seems...

incorrect. Thermop and Wheatland have the highest average annual temperatures. Perhaps you don't understand what 'average annual temperature' is. It's the average air temperature for the whole year, winter and summer.

Four postings arguing about weather? Regardless of where you are in Wyoming, those hot temperatures are still going to be short-lived as it will eventually be cold for much of the year.

How close do you need? Lander is just a few minutes drive from Riverton where there's a Walmart as well as a host of smaller businesses. Anyone who needs more than that is living in the wrong state.

Winter is an exciting time in Lander. It's just a few miles from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. It' also a great time to curl up with a good book or cast some bullets for the next year. Summers provide plenty of placer gold mining opportunities. Joining state and national organizations gives member access to great gold claims.
