I'm sorry that this is what "You" have seen. I Certainly have never seen it.

I must've been living in a bubble all the years I've been visiting or living in Wyoming ... since 1966.

I've never seen the "hatred" psherman depicts.

Cheyenne has Warren AFB, and we've had lots of friends from the military based there. They must like the area and feel welcomed, because I'm told that Warren is a desirable last posting before retirement and many of them choose to retire here.

In my travels across the state, I've struck up conversations with total strangers in restaurants or out on the trail. Even stumbled across a fellow in Rock Springs (a Halliburton truck driver) last time I stayed there whose family is from Ozona, TX ... and his uncle's sheep shearing operation there are people I know and do business with. We had a great meal together and swapped tales about the goat and sheep biz for an evening ... nobody had any problem with Hispanic & White friendship there.

Sorry, but my impression remains as it was earlier in this thread ... the only hatred attitude you'll find here is the one you bring to Wyoming.

Default agree

I agree with jgussler and sunsprit. I am not a native Wyomingite and I have never seen or experienced the "hate". My husband works in Gillette - he says he hasn't experienced it there either. I think - and this is only my opinion - that the people who have problems here (and most anywhere) bring their own attitude with them.

psherman is on a distinguished road
I was just passing thru and saw the postings on this page. I figured I'd join up just so I could get my 2 cents in about Gillette.I was born and raised in Gillette for 35 years and I can understand where psherman is coming from. Ok, maybe "Hate" is a strong word, but everyone in Gillette does dislike everyone else. Gillette is a horrid place to live. Granted, if you want to find a job and make a lot of money it is the place to be. BUT, the cost of living is very, very high. Housing is out of reach for most people if you can find it.Utilities are the higest in the state. Businesses charge twice as much for their products, yet there is NO customer service at all. Because jobs are so plentiful bosses put up with their employees being just plan nasty because they can't find anyone else to take the job. In a family, usually both parents are busy working shift work just to live. Thus kids are running loose till all hours of the night unsupervised. Drugs and crime are on the increase. Suicide and teen pregnancies are the higest in the state. Friendships are pretty much impossiable due to the shift work and the need for "keeping up with the Jonses" mentality. When people do have free time, they get the heck out of town just so they can survive when they do have to be in town. I do notice that you say that your husband works in Gillette, but do you live in Gillette MHT? If you did, you would know that it is a very hard place to live. The ranchers DO dislike any "new comers". And a "new comers" is anyone who wasn't born there. Yet the ranchers don't mind the money that they get form CBM or oil leases even though they complain about it all the time. With the "keeping up with the Joneses" attitude, everyone does dislike everyone else. They are always afraid that the next guy makes a bit more then they do. I finally had enough and I got out. It was hard to walk away from the money, but it was the best thing I ever did for my mental health and for my soul. If you don't believe any of this MHT, take a trip to Gillette and notice the people, they all look like zombies with bad attitudes. Good luck psherman, you'll start to enjoy the human race once you get out of there.

Actually we used to live in Gillette but I moved down here for my job and to be closer to my mother - who now needs me to take care of her. I have great friends in Gillette - all of whom were born there, as were their parents. I was not, neither was my husband but we were very readily accepted by the "locals". You are correct in that there is no customer service in most of the places I've been in Gillette, however, that seems to be a problem most places these days. I still don't get your opinion of Gillette and I am a person who thinks that your own attitude makes a difference in how you are treated.

Mom in Gillette is on a distinguished road
I am 1/4 native American (Caddo Nation) but by all appearces look "while" (White skin, red hair, green eyes..whatever) but I am very proud of my heritage. We have lived in Gillette for 4 years now and I have never heard a racist remark once EXCEPT for some father of my daughters friend who told me "I will never hire an indian again, they are all no good drunks"

I gave him the evil eye and a peice of my mind. LOL

Gillette is still predomintaly white but I have not heard any derogatory remarks about other races before. My husband is also part native American and the darker skin and hair are dominate on his side even though he is very little percentage native American he looks it, some say he looks Asian or Mexican. And he has not had any discrimination in the job force or anything like that here. While he did experiance a little in VA and CA.

You are right.
Unfortunately, majority have countless reasons to discriminate against minorities. Race,religion,originity,wealth...

you know my mom talked down on military all the time, she babysat for a few people (air force) and called the kids base brats, she flipped her wig when I married Andy (air force) I found it was a matter of she disslikes anyone who has more or does (better) then her... one thing I can say about military people is that we tend to have more mixed race families, I don't think about it as much as I used to, now to me we are all just people... my kids play with black dolls brown dolls white dolls, watch spanish shows like Dora... I just want a small farm, and a good life, and hope that my kids grow up happy, that will make me happy...
