In A Nutshell....
Here's the problem with the U.S. these days. WE ARE MUCH TOO EASILY OFFENDED! Why does everybody have to be so sensitive? Especially with the racism thing. Living in a very liberal area, I see and hear things every day that I strongly disagree with (i.e. abortion rights & other garbage). What can you do but just get over it- or better yet, quietly and respectfully try to change it for the better?? This is America- if you don't like where you live, MOVE! It's the land of opportunity- quit complaining about being mistreated and get on with your life. Minorities have extra rights in this country, so take advantage of them to better your life! I feel like whites are discriminated against these days, but I'm not going to blame anyone but myself if my life isn't turning out the way I'd hoped. It's America- love it or leave it!

it is good you are looking into this i wish i had before i moved to texas i can not say if there is any were you are going but my suggestion would be look at the demographical history and see how many native people ther are and then call info and find out if ther is a native american resource center they could give you or at least help you with this issue good luck sherry

I came from Illinois also and I am going to return there ASAP! But I am not going to make hateful or hurtful comments about RACE, color is no object to me, I have just had my fill of working with some GREAT!, but also some very "Major" Dangerous Practitioners of Nursing that I have ever encountered, I will not risk my professional License for any job no matter how great the pay is.

We lived outside of St. Louis in a small community, Marine, Ill. Some of the larger towns near us were Edwardsville, Highland, Collinsvillle, Fairview Heights.

I moved from colorado in 1974 to rocksprings wyoming. I wasn't racist. Until I moved to southern california by the mexican border. I only lived there one year. I moved back to wyoming. And it went out of me real fast. People in wyoming aren't used to looking at color or inherited looks and deciding on positive or negatives. It is how you treat people up there. That is how your judged.
I now live in tennessee and am again getting racist. I see the extremes of color and how they act or are held above the rest of us.
Oh, I am 1/2 native american, 1/4 black irish,1/4 european something. So go figure.

Racisum, Give me a break.
I got neighbors. Never paid much attention to their color. They are just neighbors. We drink a beer, we have fun. They are my neighbors. Don't mess with them, I'll take care of business and come tomorrow night, they'll still be my neighbors.

I tok my RN test at Edwardsville and will be returning to Karnak, Illinois. I have enjoyed my two overnight trips to Jackon Hole.
Wyoming is a gorgous place but too darned cold for me in the winter.
Cheers, Pegib

This makes me feel better about wanting to go to the UW for law school. I just want to be somewhere where people actually treat me the way I deserve based on how I act, talk, carry myself, and treat people, and not by the color of my skin! Most places I've tried to live just take one look at my skin color and make all kinds of nasty assumptions about education level, life style, even assuming criminal background, drug and alcohol use, and out of wedlock childbearing...assuming "ghetto trash" especially because I'm from San Francisco. I just want to go where I can be treated like the kind of person I am and not like a skin color.
I'm mostly Choctaw, part Micmac, part Arawak, and part Irish. And mostly get treated like "ghetto trash 'black'" everywhere I go. In spite of being raised college-prep in the suburbs, don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, have never seen the inside of a police station except to get fingerprinted for my teaching credentials; like Classical music, etc, etc. I hear that Wyoming lingo has a word for people like me. Apples. Red on the outside, white on the inside.
