Laramie Apartments?
I may be transferring from Kansas State to the University of Wyoming for the Fall 2009 semester, and to finish my college career there. I'm a sophomore currently working towards a mechanical engineering degree, and will be a first semester junior at that time. My question is, what is the general monthly amount for rent up in Laramie, and what different apartments would anyone recommend? I would most likely be living by myself. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It's been a long while since I lived there--so I can't give you any current prices. The Laramie Daily Boomerang is the biggest local paper there--probably best to start there....

Hey, thanks for the idea. I checked it out, and I think it should be a good resource for when I'm actually looking for a place to rent in about six months.

I probably should've mentioned this, too, since you'll be attending school. If possible, try arriving at least a month early, for as I remember competition for living space increases dramatically at the beginning of the school year--especially if you want to live near the campus.

My advice is to go thru a property management company - don't rent from an individual. That is what I did and had a bad experience. If you pm me I can tell you a complex to avoid.

Don't sweat rentals. You'll find one.
I live here in Laramie and attend UW. When you're ready to transfer, send me a DM and I'll send you a list of apartments. There are also often houses or basement apartments for rent as well. Stay in touch, I'll hook you up!

Again, I really appreciate the help. Jessame10 and Kele, you can probably expect a message from me sometime next semester. I'm going to visit and actually talk to engineering dept and enrollment people on January 12th, so I'll hopefully have a look around at some different apartments during the few days I'm in town. I guess that's your first day of the spring semester. Mine here at KSU starts on the Thursday of that same week, so I'm going to have to make it a pretty quick trip there and back.
On another note, anything I should know about the university? I'd assume it's pretty similar to KState, being a land grant institution in a somewhat rural-ish setting. How do you guys like it?

I am what is known as a non-traditional student. I transferred in from California. I am extremely happy here, both in Wyoming and at UW. You'll find that people go out of their way here to help you adapt. There is a plethora of activities, student organizations, as well as various departments and organizations set up to help you make the most of your education.
Laramie is just big enough to be able to find pretty much anything you'll need, including a few nice restaurants, a Wal-Mart, several grocery stores, and a very cute downtown area. Cheyenne is a 45 minute drive (still too far in winter though) and Fort Collins, CO is about an hour and 15 minutes.
I am an Anthropology major. My professors are terrific, they truly want to see their students succeed, and my department in general couldn't be better.
Hope that helps. You should drop a line when you hit town. I'll show you around if you like.

That sounds pretty good. I really may take you up on a tour when I'm visiting, since even though I feel like I know my way around, it would be nice to see it from the perspective of someone who lives there. On thing I'd like to know more about is the winter weather. Some people make a huge deal about it, but others seem to enjoy it. Personally, I don't really see it as being a problem I guess.

Last December (the coldest month last winter in my opinion) we had quite a bit of snow and -8 temperatures. We tried to go to Centennial on my b-day (the 29th) and had to turn back because of the sudden blizzard. So, it really depends on what you think is a "bad" winter. Yes, it snows, yes it's cold, but on the upside, it's great for winter sports!
