the truth about jobs in gillette????
ok i have been on this computer for days looking at all the work out there,i can see there is alot of work.i have no problem with outdoor jobs(i live in the UP of MI) my thing is i dont want to fail... i have a wife and 2 kids the depend on me ..and to top it off my oldest has autism,is there any resorces for him there? makes me decison that much harder?
anyway what im getting at is it worth it to go out there?i allready know that it is hard to find a place to live,i am crurntly a mechanic by trade ie:skidsteers,forklifts,mini-excavators,and some big equipment.plus i can operate all that to.and i mke 12.00 a hr??i can do alot more than that but you get the picture.
its a really hard decison to make. if i do this i would leave my family here in michigan for a month or so,then come get them.? i would really like any imput from people that has move to gillette.i dont like the city life.......i just want a better life for my family!!!im tired of living from paycheck to paycheck...
thanks ,jimmy

Hey there Zip,
Being between a rock and a hard place does cause stress to build and decision making difficult.
I'm mainly posting this to encourage you and and your family to hang in there. My wife and I moved to Casper in June 1974 and our 3 children were born there. We plan on moving back to the Casper area in the near future.
I made good money back then but we were not prepared for the bust that took place.
* I encourage you and your wife to use caution but do not let too much caution be a hinderance; get with some trusted family members and or friends and toss some thoughts around.
Folks on this forum can give you a heads up, I check at the forum often so I can get a feel of what's going on.
I do hope all goes well for you and your family ...

Zip,
I can relate to your concerns in great part because my husband and I are in the same situation, minus the kiddos. We are taking a trip to get an idea of what area is like. We have our names on a few waiting lists already, those that accept pets, as they are SO hard to come by it seems (the lists are 6-12 months out.) There is a nice lady at A White House Inn Bed and Breakfast who has been very interesting to talk to and is a real estate agent as well. She has REALLY been a blessing to us. VERY NICE though! Call people, visit if possible, investigate EVERYTHING...these are the ways that I am finding peace about our possible adventure. Hope this helps!

We moved to Gillette in Aug. for the exact same reason you're talking about....we were tired of living paycheck to paycheck. Yes, what you hear about jobs being readily available here is very true, especially in specialties like yours. I want to mainly respond to your question regarding your child with autism. I am a special ed. case manager here for the school district. We have an Autism specialist in our office who is available to help out all the teachers, etc. There are a couple of schools in the district that have specialized autism programs. If you want more info I can give you the lady's name in my office who you can contact for more information! Best wishes to you!

you will not have any trouble finding mechanic work in gillette. you also will not have to worry about pay as it is VERY good at the mines on top of VERY good benefits. All you have to do is check out the classifieds in the paper... good luck!

Check out the website, wyomingatwork.com They have listings for all sorts of jobs in Wyoming. You can search by region, city, or all over the entire state. You don't have to register to see what jobs are available. Just click on the Find a Job link under where it says Job Seekers. Once you choose your search area you can either fill in the search criteria or you can leave everything blank and hit search and it will bring up all jobs available in your search area. You can click on each job for more information about that job.
This website will give you a good idea of what types of jobs are available in Wyoming. Good luck in your search and I hope you find what you are looking for. Just remember though that some areas in Wyoming have high rent fees if there are rentals available, and housing prices are on the high side if you want to buy. So also check that out as well.

I forgot to mention, to post your own thread (question) just go to the top of the page and click on where it says City-Data Forum>U.S. Forums>Wyoming.
Click on Wyoming (or U.S. forums if you want to post a thread for another state) and then you should see a button that says New Thread towards the top of the page. Just click on that and start your new thread.

Gillette doesn't have much for RV parks, but there are two you could contact: Green Tree's Crazy Woman Campground and High Plains Campground.
Jobs in Gillette are scarce. I wouldn't move here now unless you have a job lined up first, especially not in an RV. The temperature this morning was -19F.
