Default Newcastle

Hello all,
My wife and I bought a 5 acre parcel not far from Newcastle and that is where we would be shopping for groceries, etc. We are going to have to be hauling water to our property and I was wondering about prices for bulk water. We are going to be living on our property during the summer months in our RV. How many grocery stores, gas stations, etc. are there in Newcastle? How much is gas and diesel there now? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Les

I am not certain about the cost of water, but many do so. There are two grocery stores in Newcastle - Woody's and Decker's. There is a Pamida and a Dollar Store. There is the Weston County Hardware Store and Hank's True Value....and the assorted local businesses. As far as gas stations, there are four...there's the Short Stop, Loaf and Jug, 4-Way Gas Station (which usually has the highest priced gas) and another one that I cannot recall the name of. Last I spoke with my father, gas prices were around $3.29/gallon for regular unleaded. If you have anymore questions, let me know

Usually the local water treatment plants have a place to fill tanks but I am not sure about Newcastle. Here is the number for the city of Newcastle. They run the water supply there. 1-307 -746-3535
Here is other info if you haven't already seen it.
Newcastle Wyoming's Community Info. Community services, population, tax structure, schools, transportation, communication, health services, utilities, motels, and restaurants.

Sounds like your summers will be nice. Are you retired? How did you pick Newcastle land?

Thanks HighlandLady and Wyomiles,
I appreciate the feedback. I am just trying to get the lay of the land around there.
The property that we own is in Custer Highlands in South Dakota but Newcastle is the closest town. I was reading in the Custer online paper that they (a group who is trying to bring city water to a bunch of properties between Custer and Hot Springs, is trying to talk to the state of Wyoming to see if Wyoming could supply water to the Custer Highlands residents. I guess South Dakota would have to go through Hell's Canyon to bring water from the east. I am not that concerned about it because my wife and I would be there for about 3-4 months a year. That is our plan when we retire. We are still 3-5 years away from that but we want to bring our motor home up this next summer for about 3 weeks.
Newcastle is closest to us and we would be shopping and buying gas and everything there. So I really appreciate any information that anyone has. I appreciate the posts thus far. Thanks again.
Les

Custer Highlands is a lovely area...and yes, everyone seems to haul water in. They have been attempting to have Wyoming supply water out there for some time - I cannot recall how long - it has been an ongoing discussion it seems.
The nice thing about living in the Newcastle area is you are roughly 60 miles to any of the larger towns - Gillette, Rapid City, South Dakota, and Spearfish, South Dakota - all of which you can find a larger array of shops.

Default Thanks HighlandLady

Thank you for the post, HighlandLady. I am anxious to get up there and visit the area. I did live in Wyoming back in the early 80's. I lived in Green River and worked in the mines west of there for a while. Later, I went to work for Pacific Power and Light at their Jim Bridger power plant east of Rock Springs. I was in Wyoming for a total of 3 1/2 years.
This will be the first time that I am in the eastern part of the state. It should be fun.

hay erosinspirit I spent about 25 years in Sweetwater county. I worked at TG,FMC and a few others. Have freinds at Jim B. I talk with a few online freinds about life in Newcastle and they say they love it there. Guess I'll have to visit them one of these days.

I worked at FMC from April 1981-June 1982. I was underground as electrician for most of that time. I got pulled up topside for about 2 months. That is when I got on with Pacific Power and Light at Jim Bridger. I was there from June '82 until Dec '84. Then I went to work for Southern California Edison down in San Clemente, CA. Been here ever since '84. One of my sons was born in Rock Springs. He is now going to pharmacy school in Phoenix now. Where are you living now, Wyomiles?

I looks like we were up there at the same time. Were you living in Green River?
I am looking forward to being up in the fresh air of Wyoming/South Dakota in the summer times. I can't wait.
