I can remember gas at .28 cents a gallon. And we got a green drinking glass after so many gallons put in at the time.
I also remember the man in the shiney green coveralls with his name on the front and his cap, it was just like one the cops wore except it too was green. When you pulled up for gas he made a big deal of bowing at the front door and making a big swing of his hand and arm putting his hat back on his head. And walking over to us with the biggest smile, calling everyone sir, little sir,ma'm,little ma'm.

ahhh, the Good 'Ol Days! too bad no one uses those terms anymore (Sir, Ma'am, etc) except for those who serve in the military....
I sometimes miss living in Oregon where they still have someone else pump your gas (here in Wyoming where the wind blows and the snow flies...we should consider it as an "employment opportunity"/economic stimulus). It would be great not having to get out to pump gas in the middle of winter!

gas is down to 1.99 near here ..and I heard that the price of oil fell another $4 today along with the market taking another plunge. Speculation is that gas will be down closer to $1.50 by Christmas.. one can only hope!
What gas station was it that gave out the green drinking glasses?

GeorgiaInMt,
I think Maverick was the same, but I wouldn't swear to it. I burn mostly diesel so don't pay much attention to gas prices. It just caught my attention as I was passing by, and they had the price in lights.
I don't understand why Gillette usually has about the cheapest gas you'll find anywhere, but the diesel prices are higher than many places. On a trip back to Iowa last week, Gillette's diesel prices was the highest I paid.
I must be older than most here. I can remember buying gas for 15 cents a gallon during gas "wars"... and sometimes getting a free case of cola or bag of potatoes with a 10-gallon purchase. That would've been in the early 60s.

I did drive by the Maverik and it was the same....$1.89 less the 2cent discount. I didn't realize diesel was that much more here, but being the opposite of you, WyoNewk, I don't pay too much attention to diesel prices! I remember the Texaco station in Basin always gave out S&H Green Stamps with gas purchases and my mom loved filling up those little booklets then we got to help her pick out the "gifts"! Oh, those were the days! I will never forget, the Texaco was owned by a guy named Dean and he always had a big Tootsie Roll for us kids with each fill up. It was always "fill it up with regular!". He also wore the green shirt & pants with the Texaco star on it. "You can trust your car to the man who wears the star......"! Gosh, I'm not that old and I'm really aging myself here Nostalgia is fun, though. When we were kids in Manderson we had a mini-bike and it always cost us 50 cents to fill it up and it would last us a very long time. Those were also the days of penny candy, 5 cent popsicles (in TONS of flavors), etc. Does anyone else remember those purple or red suckers with the bumps on one side and on the flat side there was a sticker that was sometimes worth a free sucker? That was fun, too!

I don't have a diesel, but my sister (in Fremont County drives one)....so I occassionally check out prices....I noticed yesterday it (diesel) was $2.97 here in Casper....and gas was $1.89 (without any discounts for cards/coupons).

We're down to $1.73 here now. I used to not be able to afford to fill up my tank.....now I only put $10 in at a time because I wait a few days and it goes down more! It has to stop sometime, but we'll enjoy it while we can!
