Any town in Goshen County. Torrington is the county seat, but there are many very small, rural "indigenous" communities: Huntley, Lingle, Yoder, Hawk Springs, LaGrange, Fort Laramie, Jay Em, Prairie Center, Veteran. Everything surrounding is agricultural, ranching, etc. Not affected by gas, mineral, oil industries. Most people who live here were born in this county. As for isolated, Torrington is 35+ miles from Scottsbluff, 80+ miles north of Cheyenne - everything else close is just as small and rural.

Are you just doing general research of looking for somewhere to move?

jehu, if you don't mind me asking, what are you researching for? Are you looking for a place to live or to write a book about or something. The reason I ask is that sometimes, not always but sometimes, when you move into one of these small towns you will be an outsider and unless you are a real people person might find it hard to fit in.

I appreciate the link janb. To answer Wyomiles, you are correct. I do tend to be a people person and I like challenges. We lived abroad in a very close-knit society where we learned the language and customs of the people. After years there, we earned a place among them and became closer some than blood relation. Isolated communities are sometimes hard to enter, but they also have a greater potential to make a difference. It must be earned, however and you have to be real.
