Default construction work ?

I live in Michigan & things are bad as for our Economy.I have been a concrete contractor for 14 years & have very litle work & there is no bidding going on like there will be any work come spring. The wife & I were planing on moving west for our retirement years. Were thinking of moving now because we sold our home & the before mentioned lack of work (actually none).Would there be any room for a concrete contractor Wyoming.I here romors about boom towns but am sceptical.I have been to Wyoming a few times hunting & loved it.Everybody I met was real freindly.Folks seemed genuine & real in Cheyenne where I was this past october.Thinking of visiting Casper , Gillette , Buffalo areas first week of march any help would be appreciated. Thanks Steve

Well my husband and I just moved here from Oregon, to Sheridan, WY. He is in the HVAC trade. He is in a secure trade, everyone needs heat. Anyways, I am not to familiar with all the statistics here yet, but I think at the moment construction is doing well.. I am not sure how consistent work would be here, and one thing you have to keep in mind is if the energy boom here ever ends, do you have a back up plan, or is your trade secure enough to make it through a time like that..

You would go to www.workinginwyoming.com I think is the website, you can also find it on www.wyoming.gov and click on jobs.. and it will take you to it, you can search the job bank and get statistics there..

Best of luck to you and your family..

Hi there, my husband and I are General Contractors in Rock Springs which is booming, the work force here is short and we actually hire our concrete guys out of Cheyenne, where things have slowed down according to everyone we talk to in our business. Gillette is booming right now and Casper seems to be pretty steady now too. The only problem is these aren't the most desirable places to live in Wyoming.

I have a friend here in Sheridan that has been in the concrete business for about 40 years. He's getting ready to retire. All he does is flat work. I asked him one time why he limited himself. He said that he has more work then he can accomplish, so why get into difficult pours?

I used to build Post Frame Steel buildings and had him do all of my floors. He loved them because the bottom girt is a 2x6 on edge. So all he had to do was snap a chaulk line, put one form across the door, a little gravel and he was pouring crete. He'd show up at my building and 4 hours later he was gone. haha

He has kept very busy doing nothing but sidewalks, patios, driveways and such. And Sheridan is not as much of a boom town as others. We are experiencing a very large group of people moving to our area, but most seem to be either retired or semi retired.
