want to move where we are welcome
My family and I are currently looking to relocate to a place where we are welcome. Right now we live in (I hate to say it) Northern California. This used to be a beautiful place full of good ole boys who hunted on the weekends and worked at the mill or in the woods on the week days. My Stepfather has been a timberfaller for 25 years and GOD bless him for it! Well unfortunatly the bay area (San FranFREAKSHOW) has been slowly taking over the last bit of beauty of Northern California. All of us Republican Christian families find ourselves being pushed out. If you even wear a camo hat passed Chico people glare! Now imagine this...we are a Christian hunting homeschooling hardworking family. How we have survived this long I don't know. We NEED out!! We can picture ourselves in a place like Wyoming but we know what people think of Californians. Can't say I blame you. But rest usured that is not us. So 4 seasons is what we want. And when I say 4 seasons I mean winters that it snows so hard you can't see your street and so cold your nose hairs freeze. I love the cold winter days when the temp reads below 5 and but the wind chill is below 0. We love the beautiful fall days that follow a warm (not blazing hot) summer. We are lovers of the outdoors (and I don't mean treehuggers). My husband loves to hunt all big game as well as fish. We eat wild game year round. Our kids are begging to get there hunting permits and we are supporters of the NRA, CWA, and attend and contribute to the RMEF every year. I am not trying to brag by any means all I want is people to see is we are not like normal Californians. I just want to find a place wear it is small enough to know your neighbor but big enough to have steady work (of any kind). Thank you to whoever reads this and helps a family find a welcoming place to live. GOD bless you all!!

As far as hunting is concerned, Wyoming is a fine place for it...my family eats wild game year round as well - elk, deer, even a rabbit a time or two.
I don't think anyone begrudges a move to Wyoming, no matter where you are from, as long as you don't expect it to be where you came from You will find it perhaps a wee bit odd at first when meeting another car on the road and you are given either a hand salute or the two-finger wave.
As far as four seasons are concerned, they are known to happen in Wyoming Summers can be very warm depending on where you are...100+ degree temps are not unusual. Winters can range from downright balmy to frigid - at times in the same day. Winds will be common, again depending on where you decide to dwell...guaranteeing windchill temps that can boggle the mind.
As far as home-schooling, the Casper area is a good area, as I am certain most of the larger towns are.
I recommend taking some time to visit the state before making a final decision. It truly is a beautiful place. Luck to you.

Well you'd pretty much be welcomed most anywhere in WY. But if your family is in to big game hunting, a lot of outdoor activities and you like it cold in the winter, check out Sheridan and Buffalo or the surrounding areas. Definately a lot of gun toten Rebuplicans around here and a vast majority of Dems tote guns too.
Plus there is a saw mill in Sheridan. Don't know if they are hiring right now. I know they had a major layoff not to long back due to low demand for wood, but they were hoping things would be picking up again soon. There is definately work in the area, seems almost everyone is hiring.
I'm sure there are other Wyomingites that can tell you of other places that offer what you are looking for. One thing for sure is you don't have to worry about being squeezed out by Dems. as Wyoming is a very conservative state. Even our Democratic Govenor leans more right than left.

What kind of work are you looking for? That could really help determine where you might want to check out in Wyoming. There are some towns with lots of jobs that pay well. I was born & raised in Wyo then lived in Mont for about 13 or so years. Wyoming is much more welcoming of Californians for some reason. Our next door neighbors just moved here from Cali and they are great people. I have become acquainted with another gal via this site who is moving here from San Diego. She & her husband are dentists. If you decide to come our way, welcome!!!!

You know one CAN be Christian, hardworking and not be a republican? I know "novel thought huh?" You'd like Wyoming I'm sure but try to be tolerant of anyone different than you, you certainly didn't like it when you lived in San Fran now did you?

I never lived in San Francisco!!! I live way up north. Anyway I just got on here to find ideas on nice places to live. I didn't mean to offend anyone. Sorry if my dig at the bay area might of offended you. And mind you I am very tolerant...but I guess after last year when a southern CA judge declared homeschooling illegal saying parents did not have a constitutional right to homeschool their children during which I had to keep my kids indoors in fear someone would turn us in. Also the fact that the gun regulations are so tight my husband can't even purchase a gun over the state lines, and during this election I can't even put a McCain sign in my front yard with out someone vandilizing it or stealing it. When my daughter was in public school she got repremanded for bringing her bible for SILENT reading. And to top it all off my husband is a small business owner and CA does not like small business. The amount of taxes we have to fork out montly is insane all because we work hard. I am so sorry if MY tolerance is running out. And its not that I am not tolerant of others, others arn't tolerant of us. My whole point (about being a Christian, Republican, and hardworking) was this a combination of things in CA that a lot of people don't like. You can be a Christian and Democrat of course...but thats more accepted. And as far as hardworking goes...the harder you work and the more money you TRY to make in CA the more taxes you pay. Its like it punishes you for working hard. And one last point, go to San Fransisco and ask someone what they think of people in NorCal and they will probably tell you we are a bunch of bible thumpin, tree raping, okies. I have loved living here...I've lived here my whole life and I have tried to stay tolerant to everything to stay here...but enough is enough.

What are some recreation lakes in Wyoming? And what areas get the most amount of snow and the least amount? Is the Rock Springs an area anyone would recommend? We are pretty much a 2-3 hour drive to any big city so isolation doesn't really bother us. Just trying to get a feel for the weather and things to do. Thanks again to all!!

I recommend viewing the Sheridan area - Buffalo, etc. Lake DeSmet is close at hand and the Bighorn Mountains are in your vicinity as well.
Keyhole Reservoir is another popular 'water-hole' and in some beautiful country, with the Black Hills in the vicinity. Gillette is fairly close as far as a larger town...Hulett is a smaller town in the area.

Sheridan I found had fairly warm winters, probably because of the absence of as much wind as places such as Casper or The Rock. It has Lake DeSmet as well as Tongue River Reservouir just over the border in Montana (Great crappie fishing.). It's a little more expensive to live but worth it if you can make a living.
