Considering a move to Torrington..
I'm from North Carolina, But I previously lived in Gering, NE for a few years. I've been kicking myself for ever leaving. I've been seriously thinking of returning west and I was looking into Torrington. I've passed through town, but my memories of it are mostly forgotten..
Any info on:
-"Ballpark" rent for 1-2 bedroom apartments/homes
-Job potential (I'm college educated, but I plan on returning to school for an additional degree)
-Schools? (See above)
-What sort of services/amenities are in town? (Grocery/dept. stores etc..)
-I'm 27/single and no children what is there to do in town?
-etc..
The towns website isn't very helpful, and i'm still waiting on a reply e-mail from the chamber of commerce.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the order you asked:
1. You can rent a 2-BR apt with utilities paid for about $450 or so and there are houses for rent. Check the Torrington Telegram online or the local realtors.
2. Jobs will depend on your specific education and experience. Additionally, expect that the wages here may be a bit on the low side, depending on what you do. Check the "Wyomingatwork" website.
3. The only higher education in town is Eastern Wyoming College (a 2-yr school, but you can get a 4-yr degree from UWyo thru extension)
4. 2 grocery stores, a 2 screen theater, Pamida ( like a very small Wal-mart), several drug stores, an appliance store, a Dollar store, some downtown boutiques, 2 barbers, 2 hardware stores, a farm supply store and an auto supply store.
5. Everything social depends on your specific interests. There's no real night life to speak of, although there are a couple of bars. There are frequent rodeo events at the Goshen pavilion and there is a very active theater group. Churches seem to play a larger than normal role in socializing.
Welcome and good luck

We do have two VERY small grocery stores. And as for Pamida being a very small Walmart, not even.....Every time I go to just get what I need in an emergency, I swear I will never go back. I like the small town atmosphere here, but it has its drawbacks, including the lack of stores, shopping, etc.
It's an okay place to raise kids - small schools, but nearly nothing for them to do unless they are a die-hard athlete. The youth drinking problem is very wide-spread, partly due to the fact that there isn't anything for them to do. I just learned last week that they can't even cruise because years ago, city countil outlawed cruising. Huh?!?!?
As a single, young person, you will find the nightlife at the bars about your only activities. You'll have to travel to find anything else.
Just trying to be honest. . . . .been here nearly 7 years and if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't move. But will stay now until my kids are out of school.

The other reply you received didn't mention Torrington will be opening a medium security prison here in the next year (it is being built now) and there will be a lot more jobs available--in fact, they are hiring now. There are K-12 schools in Torrington as well as in Lingle (10 mi. W st) and Yoder (15 miles SW). There are also a lot more than two bars (or two barbershops!) There are numerous places for hair cuts; there's a large sale barn, three drugstores, several clothing stores & gift shops, furniture store, lots of real estate offices, 7 banks, several farm equipment dealerships, feed stores, and a large store that sells clothing, tools, hrdware, tires, fencing supplies, etc., etc.), law offices and accounting offices, car repair and body shops, lots of Mexican restaurants, etc. etc. We have a very nice golf course here--my brothers from AZ and CA always comment that it's as good as any they've visited. . .
Night life is what you make it--there are quite a few events going on--just watch for them. The college offers a number of really nice cultural events, including the community theater which is amazingly high calibre.
Good luck!
