Wanting to move to Wyoming
After this election the beautiful state of Wyoming got my attention since it's very much a Republican state. I visited Wyoming once, but only for a day and I liked what I saw and remember though that was longtime ago. My wife & I are now interested to know more about Wyoming, who knows, we might end living there in the future. We are both professionals with two almost teenager children. My wife is a staunch Republican, I am an Independent, but both very conservative. We live in Florida. My wife is from New York & I was born in Cuba. We are open to move up North.
My wife and I came to the conclusion that we must find a conservative place to live & raise our two children -a boy & a girl- since our style and beliefs are concentrated in family values, God and love for our country. I have been successfully home-schooling my kids for four years and it has been a rewarding experience. I said before that we are both professionals, and although we could have a higher standard of living if we both worked, we chose to educate our children with our values and we are extremely happy with the results, academic and ethically. The best thing that we could have ever done! We think that now is the time to move from where we live, the overpopulated and liberal South Florida. I would love to hear from you.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Well Oceanhouse what kinds of questions do you have? Would you need jobs or will you bring them with you? What type of housing? City or country? Mountains or wide open country?

You'll have to give some more specifics on what you may like....what kind of jobs you seek...what kind of lifestyle you would like to live. You can have anything from living so rural you can't see a neighbor for miles (or days), to living in one of the larger "cities" like Gillette, Casper, or Cheyenne. The West has the mountains (and of course, Yellowstone)...places like Jackson Hole (usually too expensive to raise a family though), Star Valley, Dubois, Pinedale, Cody, and down to Evanston. The middle of the state has Ten Sleep, Buffalo, Sheridan, Casper, Rawlins/Rock Springs....and the eastern side is more flat and includes Hulett, Newcastle, Torrington/Guernsey/Wheatland, Chugwater,Cheyenne and Laramie. Obviously, there are more towns than that, I'm just giving a generalized idea of what's out there. Each place has it's own "feel" and definitely there are more liberal/conservative areas of the state if that's of concern to you.
Just let us know what you are looking for and there are enough of us from all over to give you a clue as to what each area has to offer (Clay Lady lives in Rawlins, I believe; Kristyn/ElkHunter/Georgia all live in the Buffalo/Sheridan/Gillette areas; I live in Casper....and I'm sure there are others out there whom I cannot think of at the present moment! sorry guys!)

I agree with OceanHouse, since his beliefs are concentrated in family values, God and love for our country, I'm right there with you. I want to be surrounded by people who have those same values since my town seems to have forgotten what those are.

My wife and I are in the same boat. We live in a small town in CA. LA and SF have commercialized our town and have began to turn it in to a mini Beverly Hills. THis is not the environment I grew up in and this is not the environment I want my kids to grow up in. We believe in family values, less government, helping our neighbors, and a safe community. We want to be a part of the community we move to; not change it. I am currently a firefighter and my wife stays at home with our kids. We are looking at the Casper area. I am willing to change career fields to move to an area where the same values are cherished. I have been looking into Union Pacific and BNSF as possibilities. IF anyone has anything to share I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

there are several fire stations here in Casper (all owned by the City of Casper, meaning they're paid positions) and a couple of surrounding volunteer fire stations. If it interests you as well...I know the local college does EMT courses and one of our hospitals is hiring EMT Basics. Not sure if BNSF/UP are hiring (usually those positions are in Guernsey or Cheyenne) not to say they aren't, just haven't seen anything lately. There truly are a ton of jobs to be had here (and obviously, some pay more than others).
DO you guys homeschool or are you looking into private or public schools? We're currently homeschooling, partly because the public system has a "school of choice" and sometimes people can't even get into their neighborhood school and have to bus their children across town (or their kids can't get into the same school)....the schools themselves are good (usually good teachers), it's just the district that's a pain. There are also several private schools that are held in very high regards.

Hi Oceanhouse,
Having grown up in Wyoming and lived in several locations as a youth, we spent over 30 years in Alaska before returning and reestablishing our home in Wyoming. There are some great areas and some that many would consider "not so great". Some of the great areas are in the northwest part of the state, particularly the "Big Horn Basin". Lots of farming and ranching and conservative values (and natural beauty). There is a lot of oil and gas activity throughout the state that provides many jobs both craft and professional. Although we love the beauty in the Jackson Hole area (used to own property there), it is over-run with liberals and ultra-wealthy who want to impose their livestyles and values oneveryone else. We could not stand the politics and headed for Park County, east of Yellowstone (part of the Big Horn Basin). Jesus is the center of our lives and we have found many wonderful places to worship and other believers abound.
These are just some quick thoughts for you to consider based on what you provided in your question. May GOD bless your search.

Any jobs for me in Wyoming?
I passed through Wyoming 30 years ago and should have got out of the car and stayed there.
After marrying in the UK and spending three decades there as "the American" who is responsible for all the world's ills, I have for the past three years been in what was once Los Angeles. Here I am "the white" who is responsible for all the world's ills. I have been "the despised other" since 1975. I am actually not a bad sort. I don't drink, don't smoke, love children and don't steal other women's men.
I saw an article yesterday on a site called "Inside Higher Education" which was about plans for North Wyoming to try to "diversify" their Community College system. I wrote an instant reply to that item. (Don't remember what name I used.) Without going in to too much detail here, may I implore everyone in Wyoming to take note of what has happened to the California Educational System. When I was a kid, California was rated #1 as far as education. Now it is rated #49. (I heard that on the radio.)
I like the immigrant people. I have been an immigrant myself, and it is no fun. The immigrant people are not the problem. The problem is that the Community College system here is just another useless social program that does not benefit the poor. I could write a book about this. It is too much to explain in one posting.
I am a student at "the most diverse campus in the USA" and perhaps the world. The mix of races and nationalities is great. Most of us get along. But it is the rotten apples that spoil the entire college. I am a straight-A student. I do all the right things, turn up for class, participate, etc. Most of my classrooms have been disrupted by the lengthy private conversations of the bad apples. If a teacher tells them to shut up, they do. But many teachers do not tell them to shut up. If we complain, or if we tell them to shut up, we get told, "It's their culture." We are considered bigots because we expect civilized behavior in a public place.
Sometimes the door of the elevator opens and the people waiting to get on rush at those of us inside, as if they can occupy the space we already inhabit. I've taken to rushing at them first. They don't like that much. That's racism.
The other day I was signing out of the Writing Lab. This is a process that takes only a few seconds, and it requires the signer to stand for a few seconds in front of a swing gate that is one of the exits from the Writing Lab. Someone came along and, rather than wait a couple of seconds, shoved the swing gate into me, as if I should move, I should get out of her way. It was not up to her to wait two seconds. That's oppression.
Our campus has a thousand computers on it and not one where you can work in peace. This is not the fault of 99% of the students. This is the fault of the disruptive 1% and of the faculty and administration that supports them. Why does this go on? IT KEEPS US ALL TENSE, FRAZZLED AND UNDER CONTROL. It is very hard to concentrate with all the upset going on all the time. All we can think of is to get out of there. We get out and there are plenty more warm bodies to take our places next term. Students do not last long enough to question what is going on. Those who do question are afraid to speak out. Me, I am a big mouth from New Jersey.
There are 18,000 students enrolled at any one time. Of those 18,000, only 10% go on to a 4 year college. Of the ones who go on, 87% get a BA. Out of all the students who enroll for any one semester, 50% do not come back. You guys, this is the third world here. It is not the USA. It is not some other country. It is No-Man's Land. All "cultures" are celebrated here except the culture of the United States of America. It has taken me three years here to understand that these people all think I feel guilty about them and that I believe I owe them. Illegal students throng the streets of Sacramento demanding more money and more "rights". They are not asking. They are telling.
When I was first in Britain in the 70s, I really like the Pakistanis, who were the only people who had their shops open at the lunch hour, in the evenings and on the weekends. I don't like them nearly so much now that they blew up a bus within walking distance of my flat in Notting Hill.
I am over 60, but not in too bad a shape. I need a little job and a roof over my head. I am very religious in my own way. I like my own company. I am not looking for a husband. I am looking for a clerical job (data entry or typing -- I type 80 wpm). I know how to use a computer. I am an old-school Yank. I can use my head. (I forgot to say, I have not learned anything at my college.) I am good on one-on-one's with people. Maybe care-giving would suit me. I have worked with kids. I just wanna be with my God in God's country.
Please advise, if you can think of anything, and please do not let anyone bring this fake "diverisity" to Wyoming. Thanks for listening.
