Lusk
Looks like my family and I will be moving to Lusk, after scouting out other possible moves like Montana, Colorado, Nevada, etc. I accepted a conditional job offer there, and expect the employer to extend a full employment offer in a couple of days here.
I went up there earlier this month, and it wasn't that bad. I grew up in a small town, so nothing shocking there in regards to having to travel to go to a more populous area for major shopping, etc.
Anyone else have anything else to say about Lusk?

I've been through there in the summer time, and it was beautiful. I loved the downtown area, and thought it looked very neat and tidy. It was a place that I would not have minded calling home, even though it's small. The little park by the railroad bridge is nice, or at least it was when I visited there. There is a lot of coal that moves through Lusk by rail.
The biggest drawback that I see is that the closest large town is probably Casper, or Rapid City. I guess Torrington has about 4 or 5 times as many people, so it might serve for other needs not available in Lusk. If you don't mind the distance to amenities not available locally, then you should be okay with the location.

Well, that does it. Accepted the final job offer. Will be starting on March 19th. I am so nervous, yet so excited. I really feel like this will be a great move for my family. I must ask what is the "Lusk plunge"?

Great pheasant hunting areas over there, if you're into that. My husband would be in heaven there that time of year.

great news on the job!
back in the olden days... when I was a kid, and then when I grew up and my trucking rte passed thru Lusk (home stretch), They had a big curvy mural painted on the public pool "The Lusk Plunge". Was a refreshing stop to make, and the public park allowed free camping which was handy for frequent motorcycle trips to SD. Last time I stayed there was on our first night of a 12 wk trip north to Canada then across to New Brunswick, circa 1981 (Before kids). Hopefully it is still there, and "improved". Things don't change too fast in most of rural Wyo. I'll ask my friend who grew up in Lusk 1940 -1960. She probably helped pay for the pool through chili feeds, spaghetti suppers, pancake breakfasts and bake sales. (yum, the good ole days)
About any WYO city park EXCEPT Buffalo (no motorcycles...) allowed free camping. Probably not Cheyenne and Laramie, but they were too close to home to bother with. Jackson was frequently a problem to find a camping spot, so we would venture out to the elk reserve. Powell has a very nice city park with camping, stayed there in 2005 during a 'hearse' trip to plant my dad in NEB. They had a pancake breakfast at the picnic shelter the next morning for a fund raiser. That was handy! and good too!
More Lusk trivia, last week I was talking with an 80 yr old who mentioned that his Motorcycle broke down in Lusk, everyone was quite helpful, but no parts! Someone had a brother that worked for a MC shop in Casper, who they called and had the part on the midnight bus, and was in Lusk by daybreak.!! I often waited for the bus to come through in the wee hrs of AM, so we could travel together back to Cheyenne on the snow covered (drifted) roads. We never got stuck and never had time to chat (I was hauling mail and newspapers and movie film) just blinked our lights, and off into the white of the night. You're gonna love driving the prairie on snow covered night under a full moon. It has a special kind of serene beauty.
