Winter Weather Alerts 2008-09 (Gillette, Sheridan: home, schools, activities)

I just looked in Farmer's Almanac, and they are predicting a "Snowstorm" somewhere between March 15-22, I am very curious to see if their prediction is right...

They've been right more then they've been wrong. May be a day or two earlier or later, but it will probably get us.

You know, I believe it is around here somewhere I'm finding that albeit the depth of snow and the length it remains; Alaska is not so dissimilar from Wyoming - Winter weather wise. I miss Wyoming thunderstorms..Alaska is lacking in that area.
Oh and it was another foot of snow - not 9". So please...I will merrily box some up if need be

LOL I have never been to Alaska, but one of these years, it would be a fun state to visit.

Is it a dry cold over there or a wet cold?

The National Weather Service In Billings Has Issued A Winter Weather Advisory For Snow, Which Is In Effect From Noon Sunday To Noon Mdt Monday.

Rain And Snow Showers Are Expected To Develop By Late Sunday Morning Ahead Of An Arctic Front. Once The Front Moves Through, Any Rain Will Quickly Change To All Snow. Snow, Heavy At Times, Can Be Expected Sunday Afternoon Through Monday Morning. Accumulations Of 3 To 5 Inches Can Be Expected Across These Areas. In Addition, Gusty Northerly Winds Will Result In Areas Of Blowing And Drifting Snow And Reduced Visibilities. Travelers Can Expect Difficult Driving Conditions Due To Icy And Snow Packed Roads. The Snow Is Expected To Continue Monday Afternoon Into Tuesday Morning As Another System Moving Across Wyoming Will Bring The Possibility Of Another Round Of Snow.

Depends on the location. I think it is a rather dry cold where I reside, somewhat similar to Wyoming.

.An Arctic Front Will Move Across The Region Today Bringing Much Colder Temperatures. At The Same Time, Persistent Moist Pacific Air Aloft Will Over Run This Cold Airmass Producing A Prolonged Period Of Snow. Two Periods Of Heavier Snow Will Exist Within This System. The First Will Be This Afternoon Into Tonight As The Initial Front Arrives And Favorable Flow Aloft Covers The Entire Region. A Second Period Of Heavier Snow Will Occur For Northern Wyoming And Southeast Montana Late Monday Night Through Tuesday As A Disturbance Moves Along The Montana Wyoming Border. This System Will Pull Even More Cold Air Southward Into The Area Intensifying Snow Development. Conditions Should Begin To Improve Over Western Areas Late Monday And In The Central And East By Late Tuesday. Any Changes To The Track Or Speed Of The Second System Will Impact Snow Accumulations Across Southeast Montana Significantly. Therefore A Winter Storm Watch Has Been Issued For Those Areas.

The National Weather Service In Billings Has Issued A Winter Storm Warning For Heavy Snow, Which Is In Effect From 6 PM This Evening To Noon MDT Tuesday.

Snow Will Develop This Afternoon And Become Heavy At Times From Tonight Through Mid Day Tuesday. Total Snow Accumulations Of 10 To 16 Inches Are Expected By The Time Snow Tapers Off. Snowfall Will Be Heaviest Tonight, Intensifying Again From Monday Afternoon Into Tuesday. Travelers Can Expect Difficult Driving Conditions Due To Icy And Snow Packed Roads, Especially During The Overnight Hours.



This Storm System Will Result In Difficult Driving Conditions. Please Use Caution. A Winter Storm Warning Is Issued When Severe Winter Weather Is Expected To Occur. Heavy Snow And Or Ice Are Forecast To Accumulate In The Affected Areas Causing Hazardous Travel Conditions. Those With Travel Plans In The Warning Area Are Advised To Choose An Alternate Route Or Should Use Extreme Caution If Travel Is Unavoidable.

I just thought I would pass this information along to you... it looks like there is a major winter storm developing that will affect parts of southeast and central Wyoming late this weekend and into early next week:

It looks like portions of southeast Wyoming will get hammered with major snow, and possible blizzard conditions. We're still watching where the low goes to see if we get a major storm in Denver. I'm crossing my fingers... we really need the moisture!
